Urgent help sink water coming out of washing machine and vice versa

Just that. Don't know what to do, was washing the dishes when all of a sudden a whole load of water cane pouring out of the washing machine door. I did a pump out and it started coming up the kitchen sink.

So stood and scooped it out of the sink.

Anyone any idea why this has happened?

Would drain unblocker maybe work or do I need a plumber, called mine and he is away on holiday.

It's out of hours now so calling out a plumber is going to cost a bomb.

So any ideas welcome.

Is there a hose that drains the water from washing machine? Check for any blockages, also maybe filter fitted to machine?

If there is a hose then you can drain into a bucket (or two) if not draining normally.

I’ve no clue really but my logic would be to see if your washing machine drain pipe join under your sink above the trap or below? (Or if neither I’d check your main drain isn’t blocked outside). If it joins above the trap/ubend under the kitchen sink I’d remove that (the ubend/trap) and check for a blockage in there

Hmm actually now wondering if it is pipe from sink that is blocked, the u bend? It should be possible to undo that to check (with something under it to catch water etc)

My post has disappeared. Try again. Assuming under your sink looks similar to this then remove the ubend (green circle) with a bucket under it and check for blockages. If it’s not that then it’ll be something between the ubend and the main drain (direction of the green arrow)

The actual water drain pipe is blocked. It might be the ubend in which it's really easy. Mine wasn't. I was further down the pipe. But I bought a snake thing from Amazon and problem sorted.

Thank u for all the suggestions. Just put in drain unblocker to c if it will clear it. Will then c if I can get one of those snakey things to unblock. The last resort will be to open it up, am useless at diy.

Opening it up really should be simple. It screws on and off by hand at either side of the ubend (the parts that are wider than the actual bend bit of the pipe are the parts that turn to fasten/unfasten it). Just be prepared for some water rushing out of the ends of the pipe and probably a lot of gunk.

If your drain unblocker or snake do the job I’d still take it off as they’ll likely just get you a smallish Hole down the centre of the blockage so it’ll block again pretty quickly
