Have 3 pairs of black jeans which are now very faded .

Has anyone successfully dyed faded black jeans back to a proper black?

Yes, with Dylon.

I have a pair of black jeans that were structurally perfect with no wear, but a bit faded.

Used a pack of Dylon and they were back to jet black.

Will say if you are doing 3 pairs, then to get the blackest of black, you will need 1 pack (and preferably one cycle ) per pair. Dylon says that to dye to full shade only add 500g of fabric (this is about the weight of 1 pair of jeans) any more will dye to a lighter shade.

Thank you.

I had a thought. Does the dye take on labels? I have levis with a large label in the belt area. It would look odd if it were to go dark.

I was wondering about this yesterday when I noticed my favourite black jeans looking a bit scruffy.

It does I’m afraid, doesn’t look that bad overall and thankfully it doesn’t take the level that it does on the fabric.

If you really don’t want to dye the label, only thing I can suggest is to unpick the stitching and remove label and then sew back on after, but it’s almost going to be definite that you’d need a sewing machine to do this.

I use the Dylon on my lightweight black jeans every few months. I wash 4 pairs with one of he pods and they always turn out well.

They only dye cotton If the lable is a man made fabric then it won’t touch it.

I regularly freshen up both black and navy jeans with Dylon. Make sure your washing machine is clean before you do it - any globules of liquid detergent or conditioner in the pipes will get dyed too, and then return to haunt you with subsequent washes. I run at least one 90 degrees wash with soda crystals before and after dying.

Update.

One pair successfully made as good as new.

They look really good so will do the others next. Hope it lasts a while.

Thanks for all the tips.

I wouldn't put vaseline on the label.
