Keep on getting rid of one thing a day decluttering challenge!

After a thousand posts our homes are beautiful, decluttered places of harmony and relaxation….. or perhaps not?

We’re still trying to recycle, freecycle, sell our unwanted stuff and most of all clear out our houses, garages and sheds.

It’s easy to get involved, literally get rid of one thing a day and report back for support (and sometimes finger wagging if you’ve ‘accidentally’ bought a load of new clutter!)

Please join us and a warm welcome back to

A good day today. I got rid of another bag of children's wellies and all the broken / unrecyclable stuff and unwanted or shredded papers that I've been collecting for the last month.

I'm quite surprised how many children's shoes and wellies I have disposed of in the last few weeks, clearly I keep 'losing' them in the Hellhole Under The Stairs and buying new ones. I did a mini tidy of the HHUTS last week and am almost on top it. I also recycled a child's school coat today but don't feel that counts as an item gone because I bought a new one first.

Hi, is the idea we post daily on the thread with what we are getting rid of?

I have clutter!

I lurked on the previous thread, but I now think it is time to join in properly and see if I can make a difference this year.

I was doing pretty well at decluttering until last year. My mum is now in a nursing home and last year my sister and I sold her house. Everything that was left, apart from her furniture, ended up at my place. Although I have got rid of a lot of her stuff my house still looks a like a cross between a Charity shop and a junk yard.

I need the motivation to do a bit each evening, and try to get rid of as much as possible in the next couple of months.

Hello glitter and frog. Yes we do sometimes post daily with what we've got rid of or put in a pile to go/ sell etc. I tend to set a timer for 30 minutes and blitz an area. I never really finish anywhere but have got rid of loads and my life is definitely a lot better after a year of doing it.

Sorry to hear about your mum frog. It must be hard getting rid of her stuff but also hard to live with all the extra clutter.

Since I last posted I have chucked some food away and superficially wiped the fridge (I would say clean but that's maybe an exaggeration).. After my really good start this morning I haven't really done much.

Well, if you can put up with my daily posts I would love to join in please.
I’m posting daily on the weight lost board so this would fit in nicely.
I’m hoping for a whole new me and a new attitude to my home would help!
Today I have cleared a back log of fruit and veg! They are now in soup or the compost!

Hello there

Lovely new, fresh thread, thank you @StealthNinjaMum

@glitterbiscuits I am also posting in a weight loss thread. Sometimes it's hard to keep up but it helps a lot to have others almost cheering you on. Daily posts will be very welcomed here

After my success of getting rid of 10 whole bags of clothing I am feeling very happy but also spurred on to do more. I may clear out the recycling cupboard when I clean the kitchen in a few minutes.

Welcome to the newbies and I wish you all lots of luck to find motivation to throw out your clutter. You can do one thing daily or 7 things on the weekend. Somedays we do nothing at all Blush but as long as you jump back onto the decluttering bandwagon all will be forgiven!

Hi, everyone! It was so good to find this thread sequel - thanks, Ninja! I love this thread!! Grin

I've just binned some out of date, herbal supplements. (Still haven't conquered the dining room table though.)

My job today is to actually empty that car boot I'm always saying I'm filling.

Popping in to keep the thread.

I've just started on the dining room table! (This is what this thread does for me.) I've shredded quite a few papers and cut up some scrap paper for shopping lists. I've also whizzed round tidying and it looks pretty clear (ie downstairs - I don't worry about upstairs in the same way). I noticed this weekend that I've reached that point where people can pop round unexpectedly and it's OK. At last!! Smile

That's the medicine cabinet decluttered and the recycle cupboard emptied into the outside bins. Had no idea that multivitamins could go out of date but three tubs have been thrown out Blush on the plus side I found some Yankee candle oil melts so I've put them in my oil burner while they still smell good.

Thanks for the new thread @StealthNinjaMum

On a bit of a go slow at the moment. Away this weekend so trying to get ready for that (first mini break with the baby).

I have sold some OU textbooks for £40 today though, not left the house yet but should be posted by the end of the week.

Welcome sandgrown I find that I have done so much decluttering it's just part of the way I do things now. If I'm cooking there's always something to chuck out and every time I open a drawer I find something in it than can go. I used to be blind to these things that just sit there unused and now I open my eyes and spot them. Some of us are amazing at blitzing a room. I do little areas in stages.

Last night I advertised some children's toys on Facebook and a couple of people have shown an interest. I've been really unlucky recently with people not turning up who have made offers so lets hope this week is better. My plan today is to spend thirty minutes going through some arts and crafts ready to sell / give away. I also have a small pile of paperwork to file.

Can I join please? I've followed the last thread as our house is overcrowded and cluttered. I need to declutter but find it difficult to find the time. Seven items a week sounds manageable though.

I’d like to join in - we moved house from a larger one to a smaller one recently and despite decluttering still seem to have a lot of “stuff”.

Have been listing things on Facebook and eBay with differing amounts of success and over the past couple of weeks have had many trips to the tipGrin

PenelopeFlintstone · 14/03/2018 11:09

I still haven't addressed the elephant in the room, which in my case is two extra armchairs piled up in my living room.

I'm going to join too, our house desperately needs decluttering, I also need to start meal planning to stop wasting so much food.
Today on my list is the pile of paper I am currently staring at.

Morning all, I cleared out the bottom of my wardrobe , shoes that I haven't worn in years. I put them in the kitchen with a view to taking them to a charity shop , which I know I won't get round to , so I put them in the bin. Cleared out my craft cupboard and sorted the recycling.

I'd love to be a professional declutterer !
