Water bill- don’t all jump at once!

desperatehousewife21 · 08/02/2018 14:34

Not the most exciting topic ever but just received my water bill for the next 6 months and seems a bit steep?

There’s me, DH and 2 DCs (under 8) semi detached 3 bed not big and metered water.

New bill quoting us £64 per month for water (that’s in and out combined bill) what do others of a similar set up pay? Curious to get comparisons although it’s not like we have an option to go elsewhere, we’re stuck with south east water.

Thanks Smile

Call up monthly with Meter readings or sumbmit online.
This is a forecast of your usage based on previous consumption.

Your billed in arrears on a meter and you pay credit to build up towards current usage aswell as any debt.

If you think it's to much record your meter monthly so you are based on an actual read not an estimate.

SE London, three bed, 2 adults and 2 kids. Ours is around £45 a month.

Bear in mind It doesn't really matter what anyone else is playing if they are not on a meter.

I pay £88 every 4 weeks. That's me, Dh, & 2 dd's in a 2 bed metered property. It's just dropped from £98 as I was still in credit after my last bill. I live in Devon so have to pay South West Water.

No leaks just stupidly expensive charges. Water = £1.83 per cubic meter, sewerage = £3.41 per cubic meter plus £76 per year just for having the meter. We get a £50 government reduction per year but it doesn't make much difference. At least I pay less than my sister who's on a fixed bill.

Crazy! My bill says I’ve used 78 cubic metres in the last 6 months. I’m cutting down how often the kids have a bath Grin (obv they will still wash!)

I pay £33 pcm on a meter for me&DS in a 3 bed semi. I'm happy with it as it's less than half what it would've been on rateable value.

I'm not particularly careful with the water either. We bath and shower daily, have hosepipe etc.

SE water did their guess how
Many people live in your house game and quoted £78 a Month when I moved to this area last summer.
6 months in, I insisted they took the reading into account. I'm paying £1 a month for the next six months. So they over charged at a rate of 4 to 1 roughly.

They are thieves.

Average usage for 4 occupiers is 145cm a year.

Check you don't have any outstanding balance on your account you're paying on top of your monthly usage.
Have you had any estimated readings in the last year?
Have you had any previous leaks/unusually high bills that the system, creating the payment plans is using amongst normal usage?

PotatoesOfTheCarribean · 08/02/2018 20:57

Wow these seem high! 3 bed semi here too, not remotely careful with water, but don't have to many baths really.

We only pay £25 a month on a meter, and it's bang on, only a few pounds in credit.

Not SE water though, next one over

I had a cider leak that was only discovered when I had a meter reading that jumped from £60 a month to £120 😳😳😳 worth checking. Now it's sorted we are down to £64 a month. Family of 4, shower lovers and washer and dishwasher on every day
