Lost marriage certificate

Putting this here as not sure where else.

I have lost my marriage certificate and am not sure how to proceed. There is a thing called UK Official Services online that says they will send a duplicate for a fee but I am not sure if this is legit. There is a gov.uk site that says you have to approach the district you were married in, but also a service where you can get copies (although this seems to be genealogical in nature).

Has anyone else lost one and got a replacement, and can advice best course of action?

Contact your local registrary office and they should be able to advise. I know you can purchase replacements/copies for a small charge. I have done this with a death cert at my local registrary office with no problems.

Look at //www.gro.gov.uk, the site for the General Register Office, which is responsible for civil registration. Don't have dealings with any site that doesn't have gov.uk in its address.

Def the registrar's office of the authority you were married in. They will either be able to do it or point you in the right direction.

When I was getting divorced I obtained an official copy via the GRO online. My ex H had taken ours with him then didn't file for divorce so I had to get a copy. I think it costs around £10 and the copy will be posted to you.

I misplaced mine and ordered a copy via the council website for the area we married in. Just had to put in the relevant details and it arrived in the post a few days later.

I live in the town where I got married, so asked at the church for a replacement certified copy and picked it up a few days later. Cost was £20 iirc

You need to go to either the council or place of worship where you married.

You can order a new one from the General Register Office at gov.uk. Takes a couple of weeks but there's also an expedited service if needed. I ordered one myself a few months ago. Cost about GBP 10 I think.
