I'm looking to get a range cooker. Are Aga alternatives as good? Feedback much appreciated.

Aga's drink fuel. One of the most expensive an energy inefficient ways of cooking. You have to leave them on 24/7. Don't get me wrong, they look amazing and the food is nice but there is a definite art to using them properly & they're very inefficient

Depends on the house - drafty old house, yes. Modern insulated house, no.

Look at Everhot. I have had mine for over 7 years and wouldn't change. Much cheaper to run, more flexible, no flue needed, no servicing.

I've got an Everhot! After coveting an Aga I found Everhot, read loads of reviews and was sold partly by ex Aga owners converting. It's electric, has eco timer settings, does not need a plinth or vent or annual service. I have a 100i with hot plate, simmer plate, induction hob, two ovens, warmer oven and control unit. I love it and have had house sitters live using it including a former chef.

Thanks. Does anyone know anything about a brand called Heritage based in Cornwall?
I would definitely get a range that can has the option to be used on a timer so not on all the time when not needed. Probably an electric one.
My kitchen is cold in the winter so the range would be like an extra radiator.

I have a reconditioned Aga. It's 13 Amp electric and has a timer that can be set. They do cost quite a lot to run but I love mine. It went on from Dec until Easter this year. It is a complete luxury but every time I walk into my kitchen it makes me feel happy! Grin

The Everhot eco timer allows you to set times twice per day when it goes into a reduced temperature of your choice for the ovens and hot plates i.e. after dinner or during the day until the afternoon when you want it to heat up for dinner. You can also just turn off what you don't need to use all the time. I always have my simmer plate turned off as it gets enough heat from the boiling plate. Ive currently got the bottom oven turned off at the moment. I forgot to mention there is also an industrial grill in the main oven which can be set on a minute timer for as long as you want to use it, it also serves to give the main oven a heating boost when you need it.

Sorry, was looking for help on similar topic and this thread came up.

If it helps, things have moved on quite a lot with Aga’s. You can now programme them to come on/off and also do manually. The warm up times for oven and hob/plates are really quick as well.

The Everhot isn’t the same thing at all, it looks like an Aga but cooks like a normal/fan oven...and that’s the advantage of Aga/Esse etc...far superior in cooking.

Hope that helps?

We have a 4 oven gas Aga. It's an old school one which stays on all the time except in high summer.
I love it. Our house is over 200 years old and if we turn it off in the winter whilst on holiday we can feel that the house is very cold when we come back.
I have a smart meter and I reckon it costs just over £2.50 a day to run but when it is off in the summer we use an extra £1.25 or so on electricity using the kettle, toaster, electric oven, tumbler etc.
It sounds twee but it really is the heart of our home - and it's fantastic to cook with.

Yes Justkeeprollingalong, I agree, the old Aga’s are great. Trusty, reliable and soulful. The new ones have the programmable features as I say above but...the feedback I’m getting is that their new Electric ones have reliability and performance concerns. I’m going with an Esse E90EL, not on gas otherwise would stick with old gas Aga.

I've also got an Everhot and highly recommend.

You can also buy them reconditioned second hand direct from Everhot.

Another Everhot owner. We bought one last year when we put in a new kitchen. We absolutely love it. I disagree with Help1 it does cook differently. I had a fan oven before and it is quite different. It doesn’t cook differently to an AGA though. It heats from the base so it makes incredible pastry. I find meat keeps its flavour and doesn’t dry out.

We had a very cold kitchen and now when I go down it is lovely and cosy. We just wish we had it earlier. You can turn off the ovens in summer if you want and just use the induction hob if you chose that model. I would suggest you go to a cookery demo and you get to eat the food and ask any questions there. Delivery was no problem and they kept us informed, put it in, unwrapped it and made sure it was all set before leaving. Great choice of colours too.
