You know when you get slightly gunky mouldy bits in the drawer of your washing machine? How do you get rid of them and keep them from coming back?

You don't. I just take the whole draw out, rinse it and put it in the dishwasher. It comes up lovely.

Some of them click out for you to wash

They go through the dishwasher

Definitely, as KRG says, put in dishwasher if you have one.

I do mine regularly this way and pleased to say I first got the tip from MNet smile.

Oops, sorry mermaid! Just seen you recommended this first.

Great tip well worth repeating though.

Oooh now this is exciting information!! Will experiment as soon as possible.

Why did nobody tell me this??

KRG13 Sun 14-May-17 17:03:44

In this house, if it isn't nailed down it goes through the dishwasher grin

Once it's clean, get into the habit of leaving the drawer and door open after using the machine so they can dry off, the black slimy stuff loves damp conditions!

This is a game changer. It's waiting for the dishwasher to do its magic.

Thank you.

I'm now wondering what other mysteries have been cruelly withheld from me?

I wash mine off under running hot water with a scrubby sponge.

Found the dishwasher caused colour change on the outside of the drawer on my old washing machine so am loathe to risk it again.

I wash mine in the sink using a cloth and a toothbrush. Is much faster than waiting on the dishwasher

I'm embarrassingly excited about the prospect of putting it through the dishwasher - I've been putting off cleaning mine for months days.

I always leave the main door open but it never occurred to me to leave the drawer open. Thank goodness for the wisdom of MN!
