Housekeeping

I have been lazy over the holidays and my house is a total bomb site!

I am, frankly, a shite housewife. The mess has all finally got on top of me and I want to tackle it today. I've had enough of living like this. I've begun by putting quite a few big bags of things in the attic that I've been meaning to get up there for a while but....

If every single housework task imaginable (pots, bathrooms, hoovering, washing, toys all over bedrooms, dusting, general tidying away and cleaning etc) had to be done in under 4 hours, where would you start?

What did you put on the loft? I'd have just thrown it out. We have nothing in our loft.

I would start by putting a wash in and stacking the dishwasher.

Then empty the bins and open the windows. Pick up rubbish and clean table and wipe them down. Toys away and clothes away.

Clean bathroom and dust and Hoover.

Empty dishwasher and clothes on the line, put machines on again if needed.

Finish by 'prettying' everywhere. Clean windows if time and bleach sinks, toilets.

I'd start by opening windows, putting some music on, then piling all the shit on sofas and vacuuming so you're not crunching on the floor.
Then a bit of general tidying/bin bagging, then actual cleaning. Room to room.

This is my job for today too, can you tell!!

Am in same position and Hoover has died. Am going to buy new Hoover now then come back and blitz. Will do room by room starting with sitting room so if get too fed up can sit down in nice clean space. Then bedrooms and work downstairs to other rooms and finally kitchen. Hoping this can be done in under 4 hours. Will check in when back from Hoover purchase. Let's get going!!

Don't make a plan just start clearing up. It doesn't matter what room or what order just go go go

If you do that ^^ your house will be tip top in a few hours

Once you have cleaned and tidied up only then should you think about getting a black bin liner and look in drawers/cupboards and start filling the bag with things for the tip

Thanks for the advice. Wash on and rubbish bins emptied.

I have had the Xmas tree and decorations down the side of my wardrobe since I took them down. They went up, as did a Moses basket and various pairs of winter shoes/football boots/winter gear to reappear next winter.
I have been threatening to borrow a family members longer ladder all year so I can get up. (I do have a ladder but I'm not tall enough to reach into the attic standing on it)

My house looks like a bomb site too. Need to make a start on it today but DS1 isn't back at school until tomorrow so I fear that it might just be damage limitation until then. He's like a whirlwind. DS2 screams if I leave the room so he has to be carted around with me.

Have put a wash on which has finished, so about to hang it outside and put the next load on. Have emptied and reloaded dishwasher. Not sure what to do next! Bleach down the toilets and open the windows I think. Maybe strip the beds too. Will report back in an hour!

Just tackled my house after a bank holiday weekend of eating and drinking.
First I opened all windows & put a wash on, then tidied round and dusted, hoovered, cleaned bathroom, cleaned kitchen, disinfected doors/light switches/fridge, put wash out and another one on and last mopped the floors and took bins out.
Just taken the dog out and now having a sit down and DS is watching a Disney film. Will do the ironing tonight when he goes to bed.

Since last post have fed baby DS2, put washing out on line and next load on, made lunch for me and DS1 and eaten it, helped friend with starting school place appeal, opened a couple of windows as well.

Next jobs are clean downstairs toilet and strip beds and make up with clean bedding (did DS2's cot yesterday). Not sure what after that!

Wow you've done loads, well done!

I've ground to a halt as DS1 wanted to play outside and DS2 and I had to be where I could see outside. He's come in now so just having a cup of tea then will crack on with sorting the beds out. Have done another load of washing and hung it outside, and there's another in the machine at the moment. I think I will have to crack on with most stuff tomorrow once DS1 is back at school!

I just want you all to spare me a little thought, and hopefully make yourselves feel less under pressure. My house isn't exactly a shithole. But the usual routine has gone out the window over Easter. However I need to get my arse in gear as tomorrow the teacher and assistant from my daughters new school are doing a HOME VISIT Shock

Well yesterday was a write off really but I am on it today now DS1 is back at school.

  • One load of washing done and out on the line. The next load in the machine and nearly finished.
  • One box of stuff from the garage brought in and sorted (we moved 18months ago and still have boxes to sort out Blush).
  • A bag of stuff sorted for the charity bag.
  • downstairs toilet/sink cleaned, dusted, hoovered, window cleaned and floor washed.

Having a quick tea break then back to it. Next jobs are cleaning the DSs bathroom, sorting their bath toys, listing some stuff to sell. Then lunch!

I'm having a sort out today, my dc are in holiday club on a trip until 5. So far I've done 4 loads of washing, stripped the beds and cleaned the oven.
I just need to finish the dishes ( after batch cooking shed loads of food yesterday) and have no dishwasher. Then I'll Hoover and go the tip before I collect them.

MillieMoodle · 19/04/2017 14:24

Have got two more loads of washing out but not a lot else done as the tumble dryer flooded the kitchen, so I've spent ages cleaning that up and trying to organise a repair person to come out and have a look at it. Aargh. I was doing so well.

Have fed DS2 his lunch and he's just had a bottle but he's fighting sleep so I'm hoping he'll nod off soon. Have got 30 mins before I need to leave to get DS1 from school so going to make a start on the bathroom and hope for the best! Will finish it off when we get back from school, then run the Hoover round.

Oh no Millie I hate it when things like this happen. It's always when I feel like I'm winning at life too!

We'll done ladies, we're on a roll...keep up the good work and don't let the chores get you down! alternatively do what I did and eat one of the DC's Easter eggs if it all gets a bit much

I've now done 10 loads of washing today. Most of it was from the airing cupboard as lots of bedding to get rid of. Plus made some flapjacks and got loads of things to take to the tip. Just the hoovering to finish now and the dreaded ironing tonight.
