Soft washing

I have just received an eBay order of some baby vests, they are soooo soft and I want to know how you get soft (not scratchy) clothes?
I don't dry mine on the radiator or use a tumble dryer, I don't use fabric softener as I've been told not to with baby clothes! Could it be the washing tablets I us? I just use Tesco own

You've just answered all your questions.

Fabric softener and tumble drying produce much softer clothes than air drying.

But I still only tumble dry clothes I know won't be damaged - undies, towels, sheets and unshrinkable toddler stuff.

If you aren't going to use conditioner, the detergent only that gets clothes softest BY FAR (and I have tried them all) is Fairy - there is a massive difference between this and any other on the UK market.

Find standard Fairy powder the best.

Not exactly an easy fix but we've just bought a new washing machine and the clothes are coming out so much softer! I don't know if there was a build up in the old one or if it was just older and cheaper, but something has changed.
