Can't get Ketchup stains out of a Wool blend Jumper - Help!

BoBaraMoMara · 21/03/2017 10:28

My DS's favourite jumper has 3 biggish ketchup stains on it, it is wool blend pale stone coloured jumper.

I sprayed Shout on it then washed on the Wool cycle (in a jumper bag) with Woolite. The stains didn't come out. I tried spot cleaning with the Shout but that hasn't helped.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Have advised the aforementioned DS to keep ketchup and other foodstuffs away from his "favourite jumper"!!!

Sunlight - either outdoors or on an airer by a window.

Thanks, we happen to have a few (rare) direct beams shining into the window so have put it on the sill in direct light. At least it doesn't require much effort.

Thank you.

wowfudge - I can't believe it - IT WORKED!!!

I put the jumper on the window sill where there is the most direct sunlight and left it there and forgot about it - I looked at it this morning and the stains are gone! How did that happen!? Amazing.

Free, non toxic and easy! Does this only work on wool?

Thank you!

It works on any fabric with tomato based stains, I've done it many times with the DCs white school polo shirts. Doesn't work so well with red fruit stains though.

Great, thanks, I did't realise it was the type of stain.

I know it's silly to be so excited about it but it was a kind of splurge purchase and then he loved it and had only worn it about 5 times and it's been a shit week so it was lovely when it came out. Ha! Doesn't take much to make one happy sometimes, does it!? Smile

I got tomato soup on DS' beautiful handknitted cream Aran jumper. Rubbed in some Vanish, washed it and hung it out in the sun, et voila! Smile

I'm pleased that worked for you OP. It works for red wine stains too. I discovered it by accident then read that it is a known thing.
