Shit! Spilt air freshener has ruined paint (pic)

Thought I was being smart this am as the dcs wanted to help me clean....onto a winner me thinks. Wiping surfaces is what they did with a microfibre. Aged 4 and 5.

Just realised one has spilt a reed diffuser in the living room-I've not been in here since this morning. He's picked it up but about a third of the bottle has spilt.

It's done this!! Do I leave it to dry then sand? Wipe it now? It's still wet.

Oh I should say it's a painted wooden mantelpiece...

The oil and alcohol in the liquid have acted as a paint remover. It's going to need sanding and re-painting. Wipe it down with a dry cloth then wash it with some warm soapy water to stop it from doing any more damage. Once it's dry, sand and re-paint.
