Decent towels - Debenhams or Next?

user1473882712 · 06/02/2017 23:40

A bit limited as to where we can purchase, which towels would be the best quality, Next, Debenhams, IKEA or M&S, we have bought a new house & after years of rough old worn towels we want new ones for the new house. Best quality from above all are a similar price point I think. Also bath sheets or bath towels, is there much of a difference?

Bath sheets are much bigger than bath towels.

The best way to test potential towel purchases is to brush a potentially snaggly nail or ring at them. If they pull, then they'll look like the cat;s been at them in no time. If they don't then get them if you like them!

I've had nice towels from Next and Sainsburys and both snarl up as soon as you remove the label and lovely ones from M&S. I've had good and horribly thin from IKEA!

Just do the snaggle test and see if they feel fluffy and absorbant enough. If you don't pull them to shreds or crush them like kleenex, before you've even taken them off the shelf, then they're probably OK, if you like the colour, look, texture etc.

Definetly bath sheets, bath towels can be a bit small IMO. I'm 5ft 11, not too wide but have huge boobs and a bath towel is very short on me though Smile plus I love to feel snuggled in a towel after a bath, and a bath towel isn't the same

I had towels from Debenhams that washed very well, latest ones are from M&S much more expensive bit softer but same durability I would say.

Happy towel shopping

I'm sure the Debenhams ones do.

We've always had Christie in the sale. I think there's a seconds shop.

We've had our next ones since we moved in together 15 years ago and they don't need replacing yet!

Definitely go for bath sheets.

We have IKEA towels and are very happy with them (blue and white stripe- four of in our house and have lasted years)

I suppose the sheets are more luxurious being so big but more work to get dry and use up more machine space. But if that's not a big deal - get the sheets

The White Company sell amazing towels. Look out for the sales. We have thick luxurious bath sheets that swamp my 6'3" husband!!!

My best ever towels have been from Sainsburys. Better then the most expensive ones I've bought.

I like a big fluffy towel. But find washing and drying them a pain. Not so bad in summer but in winter they are either drying on the bannister or in the tumble dryer for hours.

I would go for less plush bath sheets for me and dp. And towels for the kids.

Definitely bath sheets and the best towels I've had for quality (and the huge size of the bath sheets!) are from Asda. Great range of colours too.

My Next ones have gone really thin. Sainsburys ones seem much better.

TKMaxx normally have good quality ones. I buy my towels and sheets there.

Another note for Asda here. They wash and tumble dry well, come in a huge range of colours and sizes and are super cheap. I have JL, Debenhams, next etc and Asda are by far the best

Got towels from Habitat about 7 years ago when they were 70% off. They are still perfect and are very absorbent.

We bought new from Next last summer but they are disappointingly think and snag easily. The ones we'd had before were from habitat and although faded (and wrong colour for new bathroom) lasted well for 15 years!

Disappointingly think? THIN obviously.

I got ours from Sainsbury's they really thick and weren't too pricy

I rate Asda and Aldi towels, as long as they have a bit of a tumble dry they stay fluffy. I love Ikea but their towels seemed a bit thin.

TK Maxx/Homesense (same company/stock). Often have Orla Kiely - thick and good to look at.
Bathsheets definitely over normal sized towels.
