Do you ventilate your bedroom every morning?

Recently I've found my bedding to be damp and I'm pretty sure it's because of lack of ventilation. Should I open my windows to air the room even if it's cold outside? Also would you recommend the use of a dehumidifier as we get a lot of condensation.
Thanks

Windows should always be open a couple of inches.

That's how I feel, BTW. It's not a housekeeping law.

It's an 'in my opinion' thing.

If you get a lot of condensation then absolutely you need to open your windows. The best way of getting rid of condensation is adequate heating and ventilation - I usually open all our windows while I have breakfast and sort the dog out, about half an hour each morning. I also leave them open a crack all day or if you have trickle vents you could open these. You especially need to open them when it's cold as this makes condensation worse. Also try not to dry things on radiators, use lids for pans etc.

I keep my window open all night

I always sleep with the windows open. I get a sore throat in the morning, and often wake up with a headache or migraine, if I don't

in WInter about 10 / 15 mins each room . Then when its a bit warmer open all windows to get air through . Every day unless its raining.

My upper window vents are always open on every window but on not so cold days il lift the blinds and open the windows onto vent for most of the day till mid afternoon to get some fresh air circulating.
Can't cope with stuffy air.
It's been mild here again the last few days so the heating hasn't been on at all but the windows were open on vent in bedrooms and front room all night sat night.
I've often got my back door open on my days off whilst doing stuff as dogs are in and out but shut the walk through door so there's fresh air but not an arctic blast.

I open my windows for about 20 mins first thing. Then put the dehumidifier on for a couple of hours.

After a year of this, typical humidity in the house has plummeted from 70 - 80% down to 40 - 60% (depends on the weather).

Condensation is now minimal. The black mould has stopped everywhere except a tiny corner of the bathroom. The green mould on furniture has stopped. Laundry can be dried indoors near the dehumidifier and feels crispy dry when put away.

All this without turning the central heating up. So for me it's a big win.

I open all upstairs Windows for approx 30 mins every morning, and a good wide open blow through on warmer days. We also have a dehumidifier which is on constantly. We live in a 1930s house and when we moved in there was a bit of a problem with mould - no such problem now.

I don't open the widows regularly through the winter, but I do air the bed, turn down the covers and let the bed dry out. Most of the moisture in it comes from ourselves. thinking about it, I also tend to leave the interior doors open so air will circulate round the house as we are coming and going.

yes. I open every window in the house mornings and evenings for 10 min. even if cold.

I air the room, even in the coldest weather, after I've made the bed each morning.

Don't make the bed first thing, google dustmites and bedding. I used to make my bed first thing, nice and tidy, then I read an article in a news paper about bedding and dust mites .....

I open windows every day even in winter.in the morning they are covered in condensation so I use my window vac to clear them. How do you stop the condensation?? I put those box dehumidifiers in some rooms.we have a drimaster so maybe it needs looking at

No.
Never have.
Don't have a condensation issue though.
Don't ever try to dry wet things in their (washing or towels).

If I notice there's condensation then I open them for a while. Or if I feel the room needs it then yes. But not every day (especially since lo sleeps in our room and it would be too cold for his daytime sleep).
In the summer I do though.

Thanks Jayne, I'll take a look. I'm guessing it's something to do with airing bed first (gleaned from old period novels Blush)

Report
lyricaldancer · 09/01/2017 13:43

Or was that mattress turning and airing. I'll have a look shortly.

I open the windows more for making the rooms feel fresh, and letting fresh air in, than for condensation.

I shut the doors on bathrooms and kitchen and open the windows for a while if slightly steamy throughout winter. I am less fastidious with bedrooms.

Throw back the bedding so that the sheet is exposed (I stand the pillows on end at one end of the bed and pile the duvet up at the other).

Open the window wide and leave it open for about an hour (if not going to work - if you have to go out then ten minutes will do).

If you make the bed straight away it sort of 'sweats'...

We have a dehudmifier in the bedroom, leave the windows open a crack and leave the bedroom door open and still get condensation.
We are out all day and I don't like leaving the windows on the first setting so they are shut in the door but get opened again when one of us gets home.
Duvet is also folded back during the day

I have the trickle vents open year round which let a surprisingly significant draught through such a small gap. But given I am up, showered, dressed an out the door in
