Neat and clean in 2017 - it's the January Flylady thread

Star HAPPY NEW YEAR Star

Welcome to the January Flylady thread, where we try and maintain our nests in good order by following the Flylady method. We'll post links each day to the Flylady website for the babysteps, daily focus and extra missions in the current zone. The habit of the month is shining your sink (or whatever other place in your home motivates you).

If you are just starting, Flylady recommends decluttering the weekly zone before doing the detailed cleaning and not to do too much at once!

All are welcome, so feel free to join us anytime.

I've looked at Flylady before (I'm naturally not very clean or tidy Blush) and done nothing. However, I've not long moved and would like to not slowly descend into unmanageable mess again if possible so I shall join you in the hope that I can stick to this.

Oooh, shiny new thread! I almost feel sad cluttering it up.

Thanks for this cotswold and happy new year to everyone too.

Good morning - please can I join you? I really need to be more organised and sorted this year. I love the feeling of being tidy and ordered.

I bought the book a month ago and have enjoyed a tidy sparkling sink every morning. It's definitely easier to maintain when it starts off gleaming.

However I haven't gone beyond to the next step....must dig out the book again Blush

I need you ladies!! I'm in! I have spent the last couple of days getting tidy and decluttering from Christmas, fingers crossed 2017 is the year I am successful at flying.

Morning all! Thanks so much for doing January as well Cotswold. Welcome to MissMatchedSocks, Chottie and Lessthanaballpark. Welcome back everyone else!

Ta da:-
Done an hour on my essay. It is sooo slow mainly because our computer is awful so things take much longer than they should but can't justify cost of replacing while it still functions. DC collapsed with their tablets while I did it but will have to get things moving now or the bickering etc will start.
One load of laundry on
Dishwasher on as last night's dishes didn't seem very clean Angry.

To do:-
Laundry and dishwasher check
Breakfast
Make plan for the day
Nobody is dressed or anything as I have prioritised the essay so must get on.
DH might take DDs out to supermarket to get some bits for tonight so I can go for a run (he's out on a run now).

We hardly ever do much for NYE, had thought about having a little party tea just us and the DCs later. DD1 doesn't want to (she is v fussy with food) and DD2 has got the wrong idea that it means we are going out for a restaurant meal Grin. So will have to see how we salvage this one! Really looking forward to tomorrow though as we are going to see some lovely friends.

I have that most hated of Mumsnet things - a spa day - booked next weekend after blatantly telling DH to get me it for Xmas. Am so so excited and planning to use it as motivation to get a bit of essay and portfolio done each night so can enjoy the weekend.

Hope you all have a good day! Flowers for anyone finding this time of year hard.

I love a spa day toostressy.

It's great to be totally uncontactable sitting somewhere nice with nothing else to do but read and drink tea or have a gentle swim. It sounds like you deserve it after all your hard work.

Fed and changed baby ds
Supervised bigger 3s breakfast
Washed bottles and put first lot in steriliser

I'm in, after lurking on the other thread last month. Our house is superficially clean and tidy but perhaps not so much when you look too closely.

Although we got a puppy 3 weeks ago, and my kitchen floor has never been mopped so many times a week Blush.

Today I'm just planing on doing some laundry, running the hoover round and sorting a buffet tea out for later.

Then tomorrow I'm properly in!

Thank you Cotswold and Happy New Year everyone. We're away till Monday so minimal Flying till we get back when it will be Mount Washmore, shopping, putting away, probably continuing till Tuesday, then Weds will be Sad taking down the Christmas decorations, the house always looks so bare without them.

Stressy - spa days definitely not my cup of tea but I can see why others like them, nice for you to have that to look forward to.

Ooh I'd like to join this - my NY resolution is to sort our shit pit of a house out this year. Is Flylady easy to follow?

Report
Afreshstartplease · 31/12/2016 09:58

Celeste I do try to remind myself of that! Some days I genuinely go from seeing to one child's needs to the next to the next to the next then back to the first!

Welcome travel. Smile

The fly lady system itself is absolutely sound although the website itself is horribly twee. Basically you start with decluttering because it's so difficult to properly clean when there's stuff everywhere. She's a big fan of timers (my favourite bit) so you set yourself 15minutes and do what you can. There's a weekly plan for getting all the essentials done and a particular focus on one room a week. I ignore a lot of it and change things around to suit our weekly commitments better but in general I've found it really helpful.

I'll check the December thread later as well - welcome newbies! I will post links each day (check the December thread for an example) and you can follow or ignore as you wish.

Welcome newbies, good to have you with us. I am also away from tomorrow until Tuesday so minimal flying for the new year here too Grin Currently tackling Mount Washmore before we go away to ensure that work and uniform requirements are ready on our return.

Spa day sounds lovely!
