Mice in the house - how do I clean everything?

Good afternoon everyone!

We have been away from our rural cottage for a week and mice have got in and pooed everywhere Xmas Sad

I've put out traps, poison and a sonic deterant device so I'm hoping to get rid of the mice themselves but has anyone got any advice about how I clean up the mess they've left? Which products should I use on the sofas and how should I clean the bedding? I'm going to head into town later and stock up on products. I started vacuuming up the droppings but read that you shouldn't do that as is spreads dust from the faeces and diseases.

The house is kept clean and tidy, and we have a cleaner that comes weekly but I'm panicking about my little ones coming getting ill so I'm feeling the need to bleach the whole house!!

Thank you in advance.

What diseases are you worried about? The main risk is salmonella. Use disinfectant for cleaning hard surfaces and you can also add to the wash when washing clothes, bedding, etc.

Go through kitchen cupboards and check they haven't knawed their way through packaging. You can put things in sealed containers for extra protection.

Clean surfaces with bleach
Vacuum very well at night.
Clean crumbs immediately. Easier if you only eat in one room.
Get peppermint essential oil soak cotton wool with them then put them where you saw droppings.
Glue traps are inhumane but damn effective. Your call.

Glass kilner jars for grains
Discard any food that has biting marks or left open.
Choose fruit on the counter with thick skin to peel like bananas and satsumas and wash them before giving the kids.
Clear clutter. The love hiding behind stuff.
Try to find holes and access points like vents and seal eith wire scrubbers mixed with caulk.
Its unpleasant but common. Just make sure to disinfect every morning before prepping food and last thing at night.

With the droppings you are meant to spray them with disinfectant then scoop them with wet wiles or kitchen paperthen put them in a plastic bag then the bin.
Then clean the area with disposable anyi bac wipes then vacuum if you need to.

Also change the vacuum bag or clean it if bagless if you already vacuumed some droppings.
