Protecting new sofa

Hi all. We bought new fabric sofa last week and DFS wanted to charge us £209 to spray it with some kind of protective stuff. We politely declined. Is there anything I can buy that I can spray on to stop stains? My main concern is our poor snotty cat who isn't at all bothered where he sneezes! Thanks in advance!

Use some Scotchgard on the sofa and this will help protect it from stains, spills etc etc.
