Help burnt my carpet in rented house

I used my curling tongs last night and this morning noticed I'd burnt the carpet. I'm so cross with myself I'm so careful normally. Is there anything I can do? I'm in a rented house

I think I read somewhere that using sandpaper might get the singed bits off? Same thing has happened in my rented accommodation
