how long does your washing machine cycle take?

Glasgowgal2 · 17/10/2016 21:51

About to buy a new washing machine...have settled on the samsung addwash only to realise it takes a whopping 274 minutes!!! Who on earth has 4 hours plus to spare?!

Has anyone got this machine and can you adjust the cycle times for 40 degree cotton? Any others recommended that have a quicker cycle if not....

Thanks in advance!

Got a great Hotpoint one , it's 11kg load which is 3hours but for smaller loads there is a 2 hour cycle and a 30min quick wash setting. I thought 3 hours was long ! It's because they are eco friendly isn't it .

Mine does cycles from around20 minutes to over 3 hours. Depends what you want. I tend to use a cycle that is 1 hour 30 minutes ish.

I use the mixed load cycle, it's the most economical (according to the manual) and takes 1 hr on the eco setting and then 12 mins for a 1400 spin. (Bosch)

Is that for the cottons wash? I have a Samsung ecobubble and it has a selection of quick wash settings plus other daily wash/ dark wash, etc settings as well as the longer cotton wash setting

I have the bubble Samsung and it does an hour wash which is a daily wash a hand wash that is 30 odd mins then a full wash that's 2 1/2 hrs I can change the temp and spin on all washes.

the long cycles are often very efficient (elec&water) so check the manuals.
plus you can wash a lot of laundry in one go so 4 hours sounds horrendous, but if it's a large load, gets clean and saves you cost, why not?

My bosch is about 60 mins....

I have a Samsung ecobubble and it has loads of programmes. I use a 1hr28min one at 40.

If you email Samsung they're good at answering. Or google for the model number handbook.

I had a Samsung with a 59 minute 30 degree wash

Bosch - 143m 40 degree mixed loss, 60mins for a quick version of same.
The DC's favourite - 15mn 30 degree quick wash followed by tumble dry for stuff they've forgotten about but need in a hurry

Bosch. Average 2 hrs a mixed 30/40 degree load. Although it has a fab 15 min cycle for emergencies and tiny loads.

If I put it on the Eco cycle it's almost 4 hrs for cottons so I can't use it as much as I'd like. Wars have been won and lost in that amount of time sort of.

I wish I'd researched this properly when I replaced my ancient machine. The modern ecofriendly ones all seem to take hours. There is a quick wash but you can't put more than a handful of washing in.

No idea why a longer cycle is more ecofriendly

Well, you must get a choice, surely?

Mine has variables, like temp, speed of spin etc.

So 14 mins, 28 mins, 58 mins, for all eternity, etc...

Mine is just a cheapo BEKO but it averagely takes about 1 hour 45 mins to do a 40 degree cotton with 1600 spin Smile

I have a Bosch, I only ever use the 'mixed load' cycle which is 50 minutes.

I've got a Hotpoint and a "normal" cottons at 40 degrees wash with 1600rpm spin takes over 3 hours. I always stick the time saver button on which reduces that to 1hr38mins or I use the 1-hour "quick wash" programme.

I have an 8kg Zanussi. The 30C cotton wash takes 2 hours 10 mins, then it's an extra 10 minutes for 40C, another 10 for 60C and I think the 90C wash is 3 hours but I rarely use it so I'm not sure.

There is a quick wash option for all of the above, which take about an hour.

Mine has a quick cycle that takes 39 minutes at 30 degrees. If you put it on 40 degrees instead it takes 59 minutes, and the time goes up the hotter you set it at.
A super quick mini cycle that takes 14 minutes, but you can only put 2kg of stuff in that one, and can't alter the spin speed or temperature.

The setting I use the most is 1 hr and 13 minutes, 40 degrees mixed load, 1200 spin.
There is a slightly longer, similar cycle that takes an hour and 43 minutes, and temperature can go up to 60 degrees without making the cycle any longer.
Hot cottons wash takes 1 hr 59 minutes.

Eco cycle takes around 3 hours, I never use it.

By the way, I am not some saddo who times how long all the different loads take Grin it displays on the screen when you choose your load.

Samsung Eco Bubble 9kg, the standard cotton wash is around 2 hours 20 mins, but adjusts throughout the wash, so is usually slightly quicker. There is also a 'daily wash' option for 6kg which is 1 hour.

With my machine, the higher the temperature, the shorter the wash time - so 60/95 washes are faster than the 30/40 ones.

The eco cycles are longer, as it compensates for either a lower temperature or if on a higher temperature, it will heat up more gradually.

The one thing I don't agree with is these silly 15/30 minute quick washes with cold water. I know people who use these cycles and only these cycles and their clothes look terrible.

My old Bosch had a great 40 minute mixed cycle. It adjusted according to how much you put in so was often a bit longer but still quite quick. The standard one on my new Miele is 2 hours. There are two quick programmes. The one hour one doesn't rinse well unless you use tiny amounts of powder & I haven't used the 20 minute one.

rabbit123 · 19/10/2016 20:16

We've got a Miele which takes 1 hour 38 mins for a cottons 40 or 1 hour 58 for a cottons 60. It has a "short" option to use when the load isn't particularly dirty, that brings the time down to 1 hour 10 mins for a 40 or 1 hour 28 for a 60.

20 minutes (3kg express wash) to 4 hrs for the 10kg cotton cycle. There is a timesaver button for the long cycles

I only found out recently about my Bosch speed perfect button (didn't read the manual obviously!) - had the machine for 16 months as well! ☹️ My default programme of choice is the 40 degree, 1400 spin wash which takes 1hour 2 mins on 'normal' and 44 mins when you press speed perfect button. All the other programmes times are reduced when you press the 'magic button)

Report
breakfastnotattiffanys · 19/10/2016 20:34

I've just checked the 60 degree cotton wash and it takes 2 hr 45... but the speed perfect button makes it 1 hr 9mins! The blurb says the washing comes out just as clean etc etc as the normal programme so what the heck do we need the long one for??

Report
PinkSwimGoggles · 19/10/2016 21:28

have you checked the water and elec usage difference short/to long.
my 'short button adds a good 20l water per load!
