Can someone PLEASE recommend me a good vacuum cleaner?!

Currently using a newish Vax, bought just over a year ago in the factory sale and its shit!

I've cleaned the filter and had a look to see if the pipes are clogged but all seems fine and it just doesn't pick much up!

After getting my new glasses, I can REALLY see how disgusting my carpets are (my eyesight is seriously bad, without the glasses I was in blissful ignorance of quite how grim the carpets were!)

I shall attach post hoovering pictures just to show you the level of crapness that is my Vax!

Can anyone recommend me a really REALLY good Hoover? We live in a small 2 bed upper floor flat, would like someone light with different attachments that can get right into the corners where all the grime has built up. Budget isn't great, about £150 but would be willing to go higher for something that isn't crap and will leave my carpets nice and clean!

Have to say that Dyson really is the best! When we first used it after our previous Henry one we thought we'd hoovered up an entire dog, there was THAT much fluff/dirt in the cylinder (we don't own a dog!). It really is worth paying more as the suction is phenomenal.

This is me exactly . BroKeep my glasses about a year ago and I have stopped wearing my contact lenses most of the time. My house has gotten really dirty whenever I wear my lenses I'm shocked . Going to specs avers tomorrow

I think your carpets need shampooing. I'm not been funny but the best Hoover isn't going to get black marks off a carpet which is what I'm seeing.

My sebo is good for sucking up lots of fluff/bits. Also got a dyson v6 which is good but the sebo is better.

I second the Henry. There's a reason tradesmen have them: they're reliable, great auction & last ages. If you're using it on carpet, buy the airo-brush red attachment. £25 or so on Amazon & so worth it.

Get the carpets washed and get a SEBO. They're not too expensive and have excellent sucking power.

Thanks everyone, DP said his boss recommended a Henry, said it was the best Hoover he'd ever used. I'm a bit sceptical because I've heard not so great things about them

Pikachu they definitely do need shampooing, the bigger black stains are eyeshadow and there's a few other patches that were here when we moved in (rented, carpet hasn't been replaced in probably about 10 years!) but the Hoover I have seems to leave tracks in the carpet, which you can kind of see in one picture. It's like the Hoover gathers up dust into clumps but then doesn't pick them up so I end up with clumps I have to pick up! And the corners, I think they're so dark because dirt and dust has just built up over so much time and every time I've used the nozzle to get right in the corners it doesn't pick anything up!

Femfemlicious I totally understand, I was actually disgusted looking round at all the floors at all the dirt I couldn't see. Tomorrow is a trip into town to get a new dust pan and brush (DP accidentally binned ours the other day!) and then I'm going to get on my hands and knees and scrub the kitchen floor! I'm actually embarrassed people have been coming round and seeing the state everything is in when I genuinely didn't think it was that bad

Ive got the Bosch Athlet, Its fabulous. It was £150 in currys.

I am still amazed how much it picks up on new carpets & we dont wear shoes in the house.

I hoover every 2-3 days and its full. Hair, fluff, dust & grit.

We do have a cat though.

We have a Miele cat and dog. Carpets look brand new again!

Jenny I saw quite a few people recommending the Miele cat and dog vacuum on different threads! The cheapest one is the C1 model, I'm not sure what the difference is between that one and the other two? I've always had upright hovers so not sure how easy I'd find it to manoeuvre? Is it one that uses bags?

Curtains that Bosch Hoover looks like just what I need! How long have you had it? Is it any good for skirting boards and corners?

Dysons are terrible. They clog up far too easily found I spent more time unblocking it than I did hoovering.

Miele cat and dog cylinder. I'm not keen on our dyson (we have the dyson & the Miele). It's really heavy, the cable is too short and it's a pain in the arse.

Ive had it about 6 months. I dont use the attatchments as it gets so close to the edge. Although I probably should.

On the stairs, I just use it in short sweeps, to hoover each stair, its so light that you can. My toddler loves using it also.

It charges really well & you can do loads with it, before it runs out.

Ive washed the filters etc, & they dry really quick.

Like I say, Im so amazed at how much it gets up, our carpets are only 6 months old & its just me, toddler & cat. I can see my footprints in the carpet after Ive hoovered & walked on it

Miele cat and dog here, had dyson which are good but upright too heavy for me now. Miele is a cylinder and brilliant. Not cheap but worth every penny.

Ok, so I'm toying with either the Miele one and the Bosch athlet. I'm leaning more towards the Bosch but I've read a few reviews that have made me wobble!

Anyone who has a Miele one, what particular model is it you use? I've seen the Miele complete C3 which looks similar to the cat and dog models. And it's in the sale at Curry's for £150 (reduced from £300!)

I'm worried about making an expensive mistake! We don't have a lot of spare cash so this has to be something that will be good and last us. Not helped by the fact that our fridge freezer broke so we had to spend money on a new one and now our savings are depleted

I've got a VAX upright vacuum cleaner and it's fantastic. It's got really powerful suction and lightweight. I've got two dogs and this hoover saves a lot of time cleaning up the dog hair.

We used to have a Miele. I was a bit disappointed tbh, after all the rave reviews.

After we got our dog I really wanted a bagless hoover, so went for the Bosch Pro silence. I have to say it is the best hoover I've ever had. The only thing that is a slight pain is the cord rewind but the actual hover is great and with my mutt really has to earn its keep.
