Bloody flies. Help

We have a plague of flies- small ones but constantly hovering. The lid has broken off my neighbours wheelybin and they're waiting for a replacement- maggots and flies were in bin but bleached and scrubbed now- they will be back though. Wheely bin lid should hopefully be here in next few days. How can I keep the filthy flies away in the mean time? It's doing my head in. We don't leave uncovered food/pet food out but do need to sometimes have windows open. Help, they're driving me bonkers

How small are we talking? I wonder if this tip for fruit flies might help? (It's golden!)

Put cider vinegar in a container, cover with cling film & pierce a small hole in top of cling film. The flies are attracted to the cider vinegar & follow it into the container but can't find their way back out.

I feel your pain - We have them too!!! Tiny ones but hundreds...they are driving me nuts!

We've put fly papers up but they still keep coming but have not a clue from where

My first thought was I've increased my houseplant stock but they are gathering in the utility room where there are no plants
