Best vacuum cleaner for carpets?

GnarlyOldGoatDude · 11/09/2016 23:31

I've got a cordless one for our wood floors, but it can't cope with bedroom carpets. Any recommendations please? Have for an ancient Dyson but it's really heavy, and am thinking of investing in something new. Have had a Miele in the past and it was rubbish (I know everyone else loves them!)

Thanks

Hello!

We've noticed this thread is quite old and some of the product recommendations are a little out of date. After weeks of trawling the Talk boards, talking to parents and researching bestsellers, we put the top lightweight vacuum cleaners on the market through their paces to find the best of the best.

Hope this helps! Flowers

Sebo X4 automatic.

Mine is lovely and takes no effort to use (though occasionally threatens to run across the room without me, when I'm not paying attention).

Another vote for Sebo - I have had the X4extra for about 5 years and it is wonderful! Bags last for ages, as they fill from the top, so no mess when changing them (which I do rarely, living alone, no pets). Can't recommend highly enough!

Wow that's an amazing price! But several reviews mention not that powerful suction on carpets for long hair and pet hair, which I would need- have you found that to be the case mysterywoman?

Sebo without a doubt. Ours is 21 years old, still works flawlessly and out lived both a Dyson and a Miele.

The Sebo Felix upright might be good for you as its a bit lighter than the X4.

Those VonHaus stick Vac's don't have a brushroll in them - rubbish for thick carpets.

Thanks both. rabbit thank you, yes light would be good. Our ancient 17 yr old Dyson is so heavy. Is it still as powerful on carpets?

It's very powerful, even after so many years and it keeps its power even with a full bag. The bags are huge and last for months.
Ours is one of the automatic height adjustment models so whilst it's not the lightest to lift, it's very easy & light to use.
We have 2 long haired cats, 2 kids and live in a barn conversion, but it's been flawless.
