I am fed up of hundreds of piles of washing and the basket I've got is way too
Small. Does anyone have any ideas for very big useful and solid laundry baskets.

We have 2 in our bedroom for me/dh. One for darks and one for lights. The kids have a pop up one each in their rooms. I make up a load from all the baskets depending on whether its darks, whites, colours, etc

I have a double one from John Lewis downstairs in the utility room next to the washing machine. I split into whites and darks. Each side can hold just over two loads (8kg machine but tend to under-load it). It's white and quite attractive. Then I also have small wicker ones in each bedroom.

I fecking HATED lugging heavy washing baskets downstairs so now every day or two the bedroom ones get brought down and emptied / sorted into the big one and a wash goes on.

Well I have a too small flat and too many people and kids not old enough to put things in washing baskets somim
Thinking I'd like a really huge but not too unattractive one.
Thanks all for your ideas. Envious of your stairs and utility rooms Smile

Hufflepuffin that looks like a good one. It means business!

I have a big wicker one from argos. It can hold like 2 weeks worth of clothes, not that I should be admitting to that! I have a folded away sports direct bag which I carry loads down in

The trouble with a huge one is that stuff can get lost down the bottom of it. That's why I would prefer more than one smaller one or a sectioned one to separate them out

Dorisdolalee · 08/09/2016 20:13

Yes I do think sections are a good idea

Having the three sections has made it less of a chore to put washing on as it is all pre sorted, and I like that you can carry the sections downstairs. It's big though!

I have a similar one to Huff and with no word of exaggeration it has changed my life

Goodness. Love that minnow!
So how does it look in real life?! I'm worried it might be a bit functional looking. I don't have a utility room...

It is functional looking! It looks better than a mound of laundry though... It's sturdier than it looks in the pictures. When we move I'm hoping it fits in a cupboard somewhere.... Three large nice ones would probably have the same effect!

I have that one that Huff linked to and I agree, it has changed my life. Genuinely. Before I got it, I was finding that I was doing a load of washing, sometimes two loads, every day. It was taking ages and really getting me down. Now I only wash a load when the section is full. I use one for whites, one for lights and one for darks. I don't put towels in there, they just get taken from the bathroom and washed once a week. Same with bedding, strip the beds and put the sheets straight into the machine.

I'm almost entirely convinced. The washing piles in my flat massively depresses me and i feel like I'm just constantly shoving stuff in the washing machine so that I don't have to see it!

This washing basket has a 40 litre capacity, would that be big enough for you?

Report
dementedpixie · 10/09/2016 09:01

40litres is small. That's a basket that I take clothes to the machine in and it holds about 1 washing load.

Noseypoke · 12/09/2016 16:38

I have the one Huff has too, but I have four sections. it's fab, you won't regret buying it!

In my room I have three of these www.lakeland.co.uk/23455/Curver-Faux-Rattan-Lidded-Laundry-Basket-Slim-40L. Washing gets sorted as it is put in the baskets, lights, darks and 'special' (things that go on very gentle wash like bras and some of my dresses). I use those large plastic handled buckets from a garden centre to take my selected load to the machine, out of the machine, out to the line and off the line.
