Best thing to remove it is bleach. We had a bad mould problem in our bedroom, ended up buying this;

www.condensationproducts.co.uk/product/anti-mould-paint-protection-additive/

It's quite pricey but much cheaper than anti mould paint, it's been almost a year now and the mould hasn't returned.

What is causing it?

Yes!

Mould lives in damp conditions. Damp is water. So the way to cure it is to find out where the water is coming from, and put a stop to it.

Best thing to do is use a scrubber with some HG mould spray If that don't work i would get a professional out to have a look at it before it gets any worse.

It will need wherever the waters coming in fixed. Then wash with diluted bleach. Leave to completely dry. Stain block it then paint it.
