Sebo!
Ours is 21 years old, it works just as good as the day it was new. We had it as a hand me down from my MIL & it's out cleaned and out lived a Dyson & a Miele Cat & Dog

Dyson V6! Just over your budget but it is superb!!

Can you get a basic Miele in that budget? Far and away the best vacuum I have ever owned. I will never buy another brand again and I'd tried all sorts of high-end and low-end brands.

We've got a Shark which was on offer for 150 at argos. It's brilliant - really powerful and nifty to use, has headlights so you can see the dirt youre getting & not heavy. It also lifts off the base making cleaning the stairs SO much easier - essential in our house as we have two sets of stairs. I love it!!

Another Shark recommendation here. Buy it from Argos though as all their after sales care seems to be in the States. When mine failed after a month they swapped it immediately. I've had no problems since, it's very light and strong.

Miele Keep away from Hoover Electrolux Vax they are useless.
I got A miele Juniorpowerline for£100. I shopped around and saved £30
by going online With Go Electrical- fab delivery service.
It is cylindrical and has settings for all surfaces (icl Curtains!)
but need to watch what it picks up
Small and lightweight but the cord is a bit short.
Bags easy to change and it tells you when to do it

Sebo Felix. Proper suction, easy to manoeuvre. Definitely get a bagged one - bagless don't have same suction.
