Paying someone to do the ironing?

Dh has injured his back, and he can't sit or stand for any length of time, and I'm having problems with my wrists. The ironing is piling up terribly and we're running out of work clothes. I'm contemplating using an ironing service.

How much do they cost?

What's the turn-around time?

How good are they?

Can you trust them not to ruin things? I mean, dh's cotton work shirts can take ••• heat, but mine are a range of fabrics and vary between • and •••. I'd worry that they might be ironed too hot! Or that pleats would be ironed into ruffles, or vice-versa.

And how do I find an ironing service?

I found mine on netmums. £2.50 a kilo. I arrange to have her collect and drop off once a week. Never had a problem.

£2.50 a kilo? That's peanuts! I was expecting to be told £2-£3 a garment!

I don't think I'd give them anything delicate to iron, the ironing lace I use has very heavy duty (but basic-looking) steam irons. We just use them for DH's cotton shirts and all the bedding.
Did you see the thread the other day about ironing, and those of us who never do it? Many people said that folding clothes, esp cotton jersey type garments as soon as you take them out of the tumble drier, was sufficient. (or hanging them up in a steamy bathroom. )

I've used various ironing services - totally worth it. They are running a business so should make it their business to do a good job and not ruin anything. We currently use the ironing service at a launderette I drive past commuting to and from work. They are excellent. I have found that whatever the pricing structure it always works out around the same cost.

Do it - one less time consuming task and a load off your mind.
