I think my freezer is dying

The motor is making odd noises Sad

So do I look for someone to repair it, or search for a good deal on a new one?

Its a Bosch which I inherited from my father and is probably getting on for 20 years old.

See if you can have a chat with an appliance repairer - they can probably diagnose the problem over the phone with enough info. They often have a minimum charge and then there may be replacement parts - if they are still available. You have to weigh up whether it's worth it. A new one may well not be that expensive and is likely to be more energy efficient so cheaper to run. After 20+years the one you've got doesn't owe you anything, does it?

If you do upgrade, go for a frost free one 😊

thanks for replying.

its behaving itself again at the moment, in fact yesterday it was so quiet I wondered if the motor had actually packed in completely. But its obviously dying so I decided to look for another one, and now have a shortlist of models to check prices/availability etc. I'd like another Bosch but they are so expensive compared to many others.
