Black Mold on Clothes :(

MeAndMy3LovelyBoys · 23/06/2016 11:06

Pleeeease tell me there is a way of getting this horrible black mold out of DS3's t-shirt! I absolutely love it and I'm gutted. I stupidly forgot that it was wet the other day and now this has happened. :(

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure it's mold? Black marks on washing means 1 of 2 things - either the washer needs cleaning or the hearings are leaking oil.

Clean the washer thoroughly. First spray the rubber seal with a mild bleach solution and give it a good wipe - get right in the seal with the cloth to get any gunk out. Then run the machine empty on a 90/95 degree wash with a cup of soda crystals in it. That should clean out the drum and tub. Are you using a liquid detergent? If so, ditch it and switch to powder. Liquid has no antibacterial properties so it causes mold to build up in the machine over time, especially when it's used at 30 & 40 degrees a lot.

If it's the bearings, turn the drum by hand. It should move very smoothly and feel tight inside the tub. If it "grinds" as you turn it and feels rough & loose, the drum bearings have gone and the machine will need to be replaced

If it is mould, the only thing that has ever worked for me is bleach (we lived in NZ, black mould grew on the windows really easily, so until I got the hang of it, curtains were always getting a few spots on them).

Test a bit on a hidden part to see if it takes away the colour, if it doesn't, put on the bleach & leave for a while - then rinse and wash as usual.

Bio & non-bio washing powders contain oxygen bleach that will shift it
