Oil spots on clothes after washing

Help!

Does anyone know what could be causing oil spots to appear on clothes after they've been washed? We're starting to run out of stain-free t-shirts Smile. I've read varying ideas about what it could be, from liquid detergent to tumble dryer sheets, but no-one seems to know for sure.

There could be the odd cooking splash, or spaghetti mishap, but not all the time!

And any ideas about how to get them out of the clothes once they've appeared?

Thank you Flowers

Sounds as though the bearings are going on the machine. When you turn the drum by hand, does it move smoothly or does it seem to grind?

The drum seems fine, and the machine is only a couple of years old, so hopefully it's not on the way out already!

Are you sure it's oil? If you've been using liquids only, they can make your washer moldy which can transfer onto the clothes. Run it on an empty boil wash with some powder in (bio or non bio is fine, as long as it's powder) and start using powders instead of liquids. They keep the machine cleaner.

If it is oil, then it's a knackered bearing which will mean a new machine

Hi Clara,

I don't know what could be causing the oil stains on your clothes, if could be like the other users suggested a worn bearing in the washing machine. If it continues it would be probably be best to get an engineer round and have them check it. As for your clothes that have already got the stains in them you can use this grease cleaner I've used it on plenty of clothes in the past with stains on them and it works very well. You don't want good clothes going to waste.

Thanks

Thanks everyone for your suggestions!

I think I'll try cleaning the machine first and using powder instead of liquid, followed by an engineer if that doesn't work.

I'll pick up some Stain Devil too and try a rescue mission on the clothes.

Fingers crossed Smile
