Welcome all - and thanks to CotswoldStrife for leading us through May. It's going to be a momentous month on the political front, but this is where we can concentrate on the domestic front instead.

If you are struggling with C.H.A.O.S. (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (Something That Undermines Family Fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own unique, relaxed style) with lots of support and chat along the way.

Link to the Flylady website Flylady

Don't let the somewhat sickly and barftastic language of the site put you off: the underlying system is sound!

This little-and-often system is designed so that you can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in zones of the house which are designated weekly; defining and minimising housework; which in theory should leave you with loads more time to do something more interesting instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling when you are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once. No problem if you miss a day or two; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again!

It's up to you, but we advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be swamped with masses of bumph. All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 minutes a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

** And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.

There are three key points to keep in mind throughout:

  • No perfectionism allowed - this is harder than you would imagine and many of us on this thread struggle with this one.
  • You are never behind - just start where you are and anything you do is progress.
  • It didn't get into a mess overnight - it won't get tidy over night - accept it will take time to get on top of things.

If you are new; then trying to spend 15mins decluttering daily and doing the babysteps is a good way to start. Some of us (mentioning no names!) can have scary looking ‘ta-da’ lists but don't let that worry you. Do what you can, anything is better than nothing, and don't judge yourself against others.

If all else fails, a brew + the power of three technique + a bit of support on here can work wonders!

Here's the launch pad for more experienced fledglings Launch Pad

Oh and don’t let it put you off if we appear a bit cliquey, we really aren’t! . Some of us have been on here for years and some of us natter rather a lot – but all lurkers, intermittent returnees, oldies and newcomers are very, very welcome!

Yay! Thanks for running the June thread, and good luck with the exams!

I was crisis cleaning last night and this morning, need to keep the place sorted now and dispose of the massive cardboard box that I filled with paperwork and magazines and improve going forward. Having said, that, I'll be away over the weekend so if I can keep it straight for a couple of days I'm on to a winner there. Nothing like starting the month with an easy win!

Intermittent returnee signing in. I hope to be more present than last month Hmm However, I am looking after my niece and nephew as well as my own 3 and dp with a bad back so if I manage to tidy the porch and shine my sink tomorrow I will be very proud.

Thanks to WhoKnows and Cotswold Thanks

Ugh, 1 June and it's freezing and soggy here. Hoping to get some time to myself to work, by sending the boys out somewhere with my parents, if we can find anything indoors for them to do!

Waves to all...

I won't be here for a few days, so good luck for the exam Star :)

DH has taken DS to the fracture clinic, and DD insisted on joining them. Hopefully it will run on time especially as it takes about 90 mins each way by bus!

Then we're getting the train this evening. I should really be finishing packing, doing laundry etc... haven't got off the sofa yet... Blush

And humungous thanks to Whoknows for shiny new thread! V. good of you! Best of luck with your exams in a few days time!! (Love the thread title btw!!) Flowers Cake Wine

Bloody hell Mercury your half term doesn't sound exactly relaxing! And sympathies to your dp from a fellow sufferer! [Proffers sustaining Cake ]

A very warm welcome to Bellatrix! Glad you made it over! A good way to start (if you want) is to follow the baby-steps (the thread leader usually points out which are helpful and which are utterly barking) until they become second nature, plus 15 mins decluttering in the current zone? But best to just adapt the system to suit yourself and your home!

Yay Ratbag good to see you!

Waves to Cag and everyone else! (Glad lunch went well yesterday and safe travelling!)

Shame about the weather - particularly when your parents are visiting and its half term Blue - hope you get some much deserved 'me' time!

Hope paperwork sort progressing well Einstein!

And that house search is progressing too Grey

Hellos to Midlife and Knitting!

Waves to Toffee Ellie Honu Dogs Shannara PA
Feetheart if you are about and anyone else I have inadevertently missed!

Hello all! I've been on and off (mainly off) flylady for a few years now and whilst my toilets are usually very clean, the rest of my house is not.

And it's the 1st today which seems as good a place as any to give myself a kick up the arse and start on the baby steps again.

Shiny sink here we come!

Hi can I join? I did fly lady a few years ago and it did work but I have fallen off the wagon. I got completely swamped by the daily emails, work teenagers etc. I really need to get the house under control and as it us the 1st June this seems a good day to start. My sink will be shiny by tonight

I've never heard of fly lady before yesterday but with 7 people in a medium sized 3 bed there is lots of mess and clutter everywhere. Have always struggled with keeping on top but this sounds like something I could definitely give a good go!! Hello to all!!

Hello "whats" I was like that in terms of clutter and although I'm an intermittent poster I am trying to follow it loosely. The difference is awesome. Something like 35 bags of stuff to the charity shops since January meaning the things I want l keep actually have a home!!

Ok hallway challenge for me for tonight, I used to collect myth and magic ornaments, they are on my stairs windows, radiator cover and units. Actually I don't think they fit in any more. I'm going to dig the original boxes out that I've kept and either put my favourites in the loft (3or4) and list the others (about 10) on gumtree. That means te special motorbike ornament someone bought dh can go, on its own, in the window.

I've been putting off doing this for about three months so tonight is the night!!

I'm really sorry for this being completely OT but you're all so nice id love to get your thoughts.

I was clearing out the paper draw today (so not totally OT Grin) when I found my maternity discharge notes. It says I tested positive for rubella?! They never said anything at the time (over a year ago). I googled it and it can lead to birth defects if caught during pregnancy Sad.

I'm pretty worried now but I've no idea what to do about it. I did leave a message with the health visitor. It might just be a typo I suppose. I don't remember them doing a blood test but I was in labour so that doesn't count for much. WWYD?

Report
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 01/06/2016 16:43

It might mean positive for rubella antibodies, ie immune. I'm not medically qualified (but my exam tomorrow is human biology) but that is what they test for. Depending on your age you probably had rubella vaccinations when younger but they test again in pregnancy to make sure.

WhoKnows that would make sense, it was in with HIV (negative thank goodness) ill ask my SIL to look at her notes and see if it says the same.

I am sure they would have told you at the time if there was anything to be concerned about, but you are right to check.

SC ha ha ha ha.
work has gone bat shit crazy. My job is a nothing outside of work kinda job but today not only did I have to stay more than an hour after I was supposed to finish, but also have to fill in paperwork and will be expecting calls from work to sort everything out. bat shit crazy.

Which is basically the theme for the moment. Everything is bat shit crazy. Not enough hours in the day, not enough energy or cofffe. Soooo much that HAS to be done. Almost enough to make me want to cancel my trip to buy an extra week of time but to be honest I really really need that trip away from the crazy.

To do
write report for work
empty car
hoover car
wash car - upolstery
wash car outsides
laundry
folding
ironing
start packing for trip
check payment went through
check emails and do admin type stuff
tidy my room
take out recycling
take out rubbish
try not to panic over to do vs time available inconsistancy.

But before all of that I am going to eat tea and chocolate and drink coffee.

Hi everyone
Welcome newbies and returnies. I've been rubbish at posting lately but will try and do better this month.
Laptop is getting repaired so on the phone.

Did catch up within last couple of days, but have forgotten most. Blush

Introducing myself I have 2 dc's Dd 12 who has dyspraxia and autism and Ds 9 who has severe stress and anxiety and anger issues. I have dyspraxia and epilepsy so it makes planning and organising really hard. I've been FLYing on and off for about 7 years!

Sorry have to go Ds's eczema has suddenly flared up for the first time in years, trying to find cream that isn't out of date!!!!😭

Hope poorly people feel better soon and rest as ordered and traveling people have great holidays.

Back tomorrow
