Giant drawers or some other clever storage solution

In the space I have to fill, we currently have 2 chests of drawers, 80cm wide, 123cm tall and about 50cm deep. They are large as chests of drawers go, but still not enough! The only direction I can go really is up as 160cm is the width of the area we have. Ideally we'd have some hanging space but I reckon we probably fit more in with drawers so either 2 even taller (but not wider) chests of drawers or 1 bigger chest and 1 wardrobe with some hanging space and some drawers.

Problems with the current ones: not enough space for our clothes, let alone the baby that is soon to arrive (pretty much need double), do not match the room, are not our style and the drawers are saggy-bottomed after years of use.

Have scoured IKEA, eBay, some general Google searches and have come up with:

(I can't fully see what the options are, if any, for the inside, and again it wouldn't look right so would have to paint the whole thing and fit old handles etc and it's not particularly cheap to start with, didn't want to spend that much).

I use the lack (or kallax?) system, the one with the square shelving, you can get inserts with drawers/doors ect but I've just got the fabric square boxes that fit straight in. Actually can get a fair bit inside them and the bottoms wont fall out like previous mdf crap!
It comes in loads of colours too so I've got one with floral and grey boxes, dd has monochrome.

Choconutty's solution comes in multiples of 40cm cubed so should work well in 160cm overall width.

Haven't found anything more on the tallboy front - either too wide or no taller than current or too expensive.

I think the quality thing and width are important with drawers. When my kids were little, they each had just had one drawer of one of these: 1960s teak military chest

Before that, the toddler's clothes literally filled a whole tallish, but narrow, chest of drawers, but they packed really easily into one drawer of the ugly. It is just so efficient to have huge, really solid drawers. Think how much you can get in underbed drawers.

I don't think that chest is the right solution for you as it's a bit wide and not pretty, but I'd be looking at either second hand, or expensive new, drawers to get those solid bottoms, and efficient design ie wide, deep drawers where you can use every inch.

Oh and look up the Kondo drawer system of packing horizontally rather than piling things. It sounds bonkers but honestly it makes a huge difference to how much you can get it.

Ah yes, I have done some of my own drawers Kondo style and it helps me see what I have (but actually I found I couldn't get any more in than usual, in fact a bit less as I chucked some things out as I did it but they're still full!). Should do the same with baby stuff so I can see what's there.
