How do I get rid of this smell?!

We live in a rented house and I'm quite meticulous with cleaning the bathroom. However the toilet smells like a public toilet within a couple hours of cleaning it. I have no idea why?! No other house I have lived in (been here 8 months) have I had this problem. There is no wee on the floor, behind it, on it, anywhere!! Neutralising the air doesn't help. Changing all cleaning products hasn't helped. Bleach doesn't help (as a rule I don't use it due to ds1 asthma). I'm tempted to rip up the Lino. Even dh smells it which is something! Any ideas what's going on??

Tia

There's probably wee under the lino 😱

Could you rip it up and clean, then replace with a new bit?

Gross!

Can you ask the landlord to sort it out?

Have you tried taking the loo seat off and cleaning where it bolts to the pan? Or, I agree it could well be under the Lino. If it had been replaced over floorboards that already had pee on them, there's no way to get rid of the smell

I haven't taken the bolts off recently but will try that. If it is under the Lino -and I rip it up, would you scrub the floorboards? Let it dry then replace?

I know landlord won't help as toilet is working fine. There's been quite a few problems Iv had to get them to sort and I know they getting annoyed as they think I'm fussing. It will be our contract renewal and next month they could turn round and not renew it and there aren't many houses to rent here so I don't want to rock the boat

Yea, I'd scrub, but while still damp I'd throw loads of bicarb of soda on to draw out the stench out of the wood. I'd repeat that until smell gone and wood dry. Then get a new piece of lino. You can probably pick up an offcut very cheaply.

And then seal the joins in the Lino, and where it joins the loo, with mastic so that no more wee can get in.

It wasn't sealed round loo when we moved in, I then did it so I reckon I sealed in the other peoples wee Shock .

Got friends over today so didn't want to start scrubbing etc so have an air neutraliser air freshener and window open. Can still smell it. Have sent dh out to get new loo seat also Grin

Anyone know how to get a biggish ( 12x20 cm ) splodge of e-liquid out of a wool carpet please ? I've only just seen it and haven't tried anything yet. Apparently it was spilt in the last few days.

Try spraying the whole area with listeria. The antibacterial properties could help, I use this professionally to neutralise smells like off milk on carpet. Worth a try as cheap!

*Listerine, or any other mouthwash, don't spray listeria around! Bastard spellchecker!

Really?! Spray mouthwash?! Never thought of that. Loo seat replaced and makes me feel better but will have to take up the Lino. Not looking forward to itSad
