Problems with the fabric softener compartment

Apologies if this has been done before, buried recently moved into a house with a built in washing machine (Baumatic). I have noticed that every time I do a load of washing, the compartment where I put the fabric conditioner fills up with water after every wash. Sometimes, it will leave a foamy residue as well.

I have washed/bleached the drawer and behind the drawer. I have used cotton buds to clean the more intricate parts, and I have ran the machine on its hottest cycle. These are all the suggestions I have seen online which are supposed to help, but it's still exactly the same.

Has anyone got any other ideas?

If you pull the drawer out, there should be a cover/syphon cap in the softener compartment, sometimes gunge gets in the cap and stops water from draining the drawer.

It could be the level of the machine. They come with 4 adjustable feet underneath the machine. The machine needs to be slightly tipped lower at the back for the water to drain out of the drawer, so I'm guessing if it's fixed in you are not able to adjust how the machine stands up.
