The house open s to living room level with kitchen downstairs
Which means that there is a door
Frount door
Door to stair s up
Door to stair down - kitchen
It's like a big hall
Anyone think of how we cd actually use it as everuone passes thro from

Up down stairs !!!!

Comfy chair,
Footstool, rug and book shelves?
Make it into a reading nook.

Is it too far from the kitchen to be a dining room?

I mean, how many stairs, a mezzanine or full flight?

I had a room like this, it was fairly big 13' square. It was a massive hallway really but such a waste of space - sitting room to right, dining room to left and kitchen straight ahead with the front door at the other side.

I had a piano on one wall, bookcases along the other with two lamp tables/lamps and an armchair and footstool. It worked quite well but I lived alone at the time which is very different to family living isn't it.

I think it would work for us now though without a rug as it would be filthy in no time - countryside living, no footpaths etc.

I was thinking of making a room like that with a hall way at one side - the builder advised v it was it wd be a very small room indeed and a small hall and may be dark .was going to use as v small reading room !! Or just a chair , fire - has open Victorian Fire and a rug and shelves ! Got outvoted by family ! Say too many small rooms ! Our house is four floors but as the stairs run up the centre we can't , without moving the stairs open plan to bigger rooms !!!!

We have a room that's not quite a hall, between front door/proper hall and kitchen. We have a table/bench for homework, like a home office setup. It's where the noticeboard with calendar etc lives.
