I want to scream ( or possibly cry)!

My house quite frankly is a shit tip since we came back from holiday on Monday. I have finally got all the laundry done - it rained everyday since we've been back so drying it has been slow.
But there is just stuff everywhere - just STUFF.
the dining table is covered, the breaks ft bat seems covered despite me tidying up, the kitchen floor still looks filthy despite being washed yesterday, I gave cleAned the bathrooms and emptied the bins so that's ok but I'm just feeling overwhelmed.
Dh has decided wiping down the kitchen cupboards is a priority, and while I appreciate his help there are more important things like getting of THE STUFF!!!
Dd (19) well, her room requires a hazmat suit to enter, I have repeatedly told her to sort it and she says oh it's just clothes mum! Yes but they belong in the closet not the friggin' floor you slob! I know it's her room and I should ignore but I know it's there!!
How does everyone just keep it straight??!! I'm normally not this disorganised but today my hid there is mess everywhere.
I have tried Kondo and fly lady but gave up. Perhaps try again?
Feel like I'm going in circles today:((

Ok now I've vented back to tidying and cleaning- the fish will need head torches to see where they are swimming if I don't clean them out today, too.

Mine is too - I'm trying to tackle it today. I'm using UFYH to throw up some random challenges as my problem is always getting started.

My house is like this. The trouble is we can't use all the attic space because dh never got round to boarding it all out properly. Every time he makes some sarcastic comment about the mess I ask him where he'd like me to put it as I can't use the attic and it starts a row. Exhausting. And it's not even all my mess, cheeky sod. Do you feel like you're the only one that cares? I do. Hmm

Dh cares but he works long hours and travels and had to go to Denmark less than 24 hrs after we returned from Mexico, poor sod so I've been trying to get straight all week as well as sorting stuff for my witch of a mother who, having got rid for all the carers we set up, is now being very demanding - but no surprise there!
I just never seem to completely clear the clutter- our attic is boarded and fill of shit! Can't even think about sorting that yet.
I am being ruthless about getting rid of things but there still is stuff everywhere and I've no idea how to permanently get clear.

You're going about it the wrong way. Start with the attic - it's the easiest as it's very likely you'll not want the stuff up there. Then when you have space up there you can sort stuff to keep that you need, stuff to keep that you don't need right now (to go to the attic) and stuff to go. That's the way I did it.

Needs doing again mind, but I've got annual leave coming up and am going to be ON IT!

I'm guessing issues with your mother being out of control is spilling over with you feeling everything is out of control though?

Can you sort it into different piles? eBay, car boot sale, Facebook selling page, charity shop and bin? It's a faff listing loads of stuff on eBay but it's lovely when the money starts rolling in.

That's the bonus of having room in the attic, a place to put boxes of stuff that is listed on ebay Grin

you've gotta get rid of as much stuff as you can - and stop anything new coming in.

The attic is not the answer - stuff the goes into the loft hardly ever comes out again - you don't want it or need it so get rid of it!

Mines the same. Been really getting to me today. 2 small children and a DH that decided to do cooking today means I've cleaned the kitchen twice and yet it still looks like a dump.
Fed up with it today.

I kondoed DS's room with him. It was amazing! He got rid of 1/2 his stuff and his floor is much much tidier

Who does all the 'stuff' belong to - eg you, DH, or the DCs?

(Sorry - now just having that clearly much-needed extra caffeine.)

It's a bit of everybody's stuff!
Well since yesterday I have cleared off the dining table, done all the laundry and got 90% of ut dry and folded in baskets, hoovered/swept entire house and cleaned all the bathrooms!
I have ruthlessly gone through the mass of papers, junk mail and crap that was on breakfast bar so it's much tidier now.

Dd has FINALLY put 75% of get clothes away, think the rest needs washing! I did throw a wobbly yesterday and told her I would remove her car keys if she didn't clean it up!

Our bedroom is tidier but still got old magazines and clothes ( dh's!) to be put away.

Think I'm going to make a start on the attic this week- going to deal with one binbag/box/small area a day spending no more than 30 mins on it. It will probably take a couple of weeks to sort and reorganise and several trips to the tip!!
Thank you for the tips and support. Feel less overwhelmed but definitely need to have better systems set up to avoid the shit tip reappearing!

I think you can get rid of tons of stuff from the attic, if you haven't thought of or used something in two years, just get rid of it!!

Some of it is in boxes we shipped back from the States and I've never opened them! Blushso am sure there is stuff that can be chucked!

Lots of lovely donations probably. (If you brought the stuff back, odds are it's worth giving to a charity shop - and it's a lot easier to dispose of things if you think someone can still get a use from them.) You're doing well. Smile
