Help! Stinky feet on duvet!

Hoping some wise Mner can help. My friend's lovely son just stayed with us for a few nights. He is lovely but his feet definitely aren't! They are eye-wateringly, room-emptyingly rotten, I could gag thinking about it.

Anyway, I went into the spare room this morning to strip the bed and OMG the smell is horrendous! Kind of sour and vinegary (the whole room) plus my lovely new bed linen / sheet etc stink of feet. Even the duvet the smells of it. I will try washing the sheets etc in vinegar and then normal bio liquid but is there any way of getting rid of the pong from the duvet without taking it to the dry cleaner? The weather here is terrible so no way we could hang it out to air for hours but if I could spray it with something I could maybe get it out for an hour.

Can you hang it over the staircase? Or just over a door?

I put mine in the washing machine every so often. It comes out smelling lovely! Then you'd have to put it over a radiator if the weather's bad

Unless it is very thin, it might not fit in a domestic washer or dryer, but it will fit in the big one in the laundrette.

Their driers work out very expensive, so do try to hang it outside in the sun. If it dries slowly it bacteria and mould will grow making it smell like a neglected dishcloth. Even wait for a sunny spell before you wash it, or take it back to the laundrette to finish off.

There's a sports wash you can get in the supermarket that has an anti-bacterial in it that's supposed to get out sweaty smells. Also there's Dettol laundry liquid that might help if your normal detergent doesn't work.

If you can't wash the duvet, could you sprinkle it with bicarbonate of soda, leave it for a while then hoover off or shake off outside? Bicarb is supposed to be a good deodoriser. Then there are deodorising sprays like Febreeze. They seem a bit suss to me but I had to use one when DS1 wet himself & it ran down into his new shoes. It seemed to work but then I didn't expect the shoes to smell like fresh linen!

If you don't want to wash it, try fabreeze and airing it first
