Kondo and sock folding - is it worth the effort?

Am following this book and doing my wardrobe today. I've always balled my socks and never thought anything of it. Is it truly worthwhile and useful to fold them not ball them? I can see the value of a lot of what she says but I just can't see it with this.

I'm really into all the folding, which I initially thought I wouldn't be bothered with. They take up less space and because you can see what you've got you don't keep crappy socks that you never wear. It doesn't take long.

I've Kondo'd our clothes (then had to stop due to a massive fibro flare-up) but the clothes have stayed done. My OH who was quite amused by it all at first prefers his socks folded. They do take up a lot less space and he can find which ones he wants instantly rather than having to search through an overflowing pile of balled up socks.

I can't believe how less space they take up. I'm considering tours of my wardrobe it looks so organised .

I'd say yes! Only started on Wednesday night and I've dumped 12 bin bags of stuff through just doing clothes (mine, dhs, dsx2) and have folded everything.

My son's have been getting themselves dressed 1st thing in the morning, unheard of before! Even the 3 year old said 'nice clothes mummy' when he seen his drawers.

I couldn't imagine a better method than pairing them up then rolling into a ball, so looked for the method on YouTube . Can't see the advantage, really? Surely if you store them in a drawer they only stay neat if the drawer is quite full of them? Personally, my socks have half a shelf in the airing cupboard and chucking them in there is no hardship.

I only have a few pairs of socks in my drawer and they are standing neatly. I supposeit helps not stretch the elastic tops too.

Optimist the trick is to keep folding/rolling (like a sushi) them until they kinda stand up on their own, then use drawer dividers (Konmari recomends shoe boxes but I've had great joy from graze boxes with the lids folded up ).

Rolling socks up into a ball takes more time than folding them & it's also really irritating when you have to unball them.

Absolutely! More so if space is an issue. I treat myself to pax wardrobes and the interiors and bought the Alex office drawers for underwear - 2 and a half drawers of balled up socks now fit beautifully in to one of the shallow drawers. Didn't think I'd keep to it but a year later they are still folded get a little thrill every time I open the drawer and see the neatness!

DH has much more room so his remain balled. However, I do fold his Tshirts up up the Kondo way and it has saved much space too :-)
