Going to the recycling centre to drop off DH's old work tops, a big cardboard box, old printer and a rusty scooter. We're also off to Asda for another pair of work trousers for DH and a new swimsuit for DD. It's funny how stuff goes out and more comes in!

DH is really enjoying his new job and it's been a big improvement. Two of his old colleagues have started at his new place too but in different departments. He's at a desk doing admin and they're doing physical jobs in the warehouse. He definitely feels more confident and like he's getting up the career ladder!

Hmm. DS (who has PDA) had a fit over getting rid of his scooter. Called me horrid names. So that came back home with us sigh

Am distracted from kondoing by the Wimbledon final but they've just stopped for rain so I might get my wool stash out to kondo.

I've taken up Kondoing again. I didn't do it right first time around. I got rid of loads of stuff - over 11 binbags of clothes, over 100 books, etc, but still kept more than I should have.

What I'm doing now is grouping things without sorting through them yet (except for obvious cases). So yesterday I cleaned a deep shelf out, put all the stationery in one place, books in another, hair things together, etc, and as I continue I will keep grouping things. Then I will go through stuff. But my house is too small and stuffed for me to take much pleasure in doing it 'properly' right now.

I've fallen off the kondoing wagon. I got stuck on paperwork and toys. However, my folded clothes are still bringing me joy and I'm determined to restart. I've decided to give myself a year since I've totally failed to do it in 6 months.

I'm finding it hard to let go of the fear attached to throwing out letters from the bank and worry that I might need some receipts/instructions someday.

Has anyone got any tips?

I've just rekondoed two of the three drawers of clothes I have and found another half dozen things to chuck. Seriously need to crack in though as I've been clothes for 6 months....

Unexpected side effects of Kondoing. Having to buy a new freezer!

Because we now have room for all our clothes there are no longer piles of washing waiting to be done on top of the chest freezer. This means that we could then see that the freezer lid didn't close unless there was a heavy weight on top of it. Investigation showed that actually the hinges have ripped away from the body of the freezer and it's not repairable. Well damn!

Hello again! You guys have poked me into getting rid of a pile of stuff - I'm trying to raise cash to replace a stolen item (well it's been replaced but the credit card bill will be on its way...), so trying to balance the spirit of Kondo with wanting the odd few quid!

So listed a pile on FB tonight, then will list once more, then a few items are for Ebay, but anything left by 12 August is for the charity shop, end of. Including the dress I got legally married in - it will never fit again and someone else should get to wear it.

I'm fondly hoping that the school holidays will reduce the rate at which papers that may be vital come into this house...

Iqueen - I had a large commitment ceremony with MrNC that as far as we are concerned was our 'real' wedding, but for various reasons we decided to also get legally wed, so we snuck out of work and went down the reg office. I would have just stayed in my suit but MrNC asked if I'd wear a dress and suggested this one that I'd worn to various other weddings.

So a bit of sentimental value but not much - my actual wedding dress I still wear the skirt part sometimes, but the bodice didn't fit two weeks later - I was rather ill at the time and lost a couple stone in couple months before the ceremony. I'll keep that part too until I can find a good home for it. Dd may like it at some point!

Ran clean up software on my computer which I hope will make my email run fasterso I can actually delete emails easily.

So....just discovered this....been reading from thread 8, ordered the book but have a few Q's to you experts out there...
I have trouble with sentimentality, I have just had to clear my parents house which they lived in for 58 years and I have lots of.....well stuff I'd find it hard to be ruthless. How do I move on?
Also when she's folding all those socks etc, they are all nice and new, don't think my manky ones would look quite like that!
Will get back to the videos above now...lots to learn, I seriously need to do this.

sayerville I have read the book and worshipped from afar but I have only kondoed my daughter's cupboard. It has stayed really organised since I folded all her stuff into Kondo stand on their side rectangles.

I need to do some big decluttering to get any further!

I am really daunted by the taking everything out because I tend to get completely distracted by the detail. Like when I tried to clear out a cupboard last week and found a load of old letters, an hour later I had more mess all around me and had got no further .

I think you need to have some real drive to do it her way but I am sure her way is the way!

My friend with a beautiful clean house says her enemy is clutter, she said you can't clean a cluttered house so she keeps the clutter out as a clean house is SO important to her.

I think if you can really hone the "joy" test, the shedding should get easier.
It's like if you're holding two books and one has to be thrown into a river and one saved, which do you keep? I think she teaches people to choose and choose and choose again what they want and what they don't want and in the process they become more themselves and they start to see who they are once all the clutter surrounding them and confusing them is gone.

Spent all afternoon yesterday sorting through DD's clothes now she's back for the summer from Uni, took a bad to charity, didn't get round to folding she thinks its OCD...
I just find it hard to part with stuff, my Mum was the same now I have her stuff boxed in the garage too, long emotional process.
And....warning to all those out there getting rid of payslips, I work in HR, if you are a teacher and pensions have your service wrong you will need payslips as evidence, so check your yearly statements don't come to us years later when you have gotten rid of them! I just received about 30 today from a teacher (just hate the missing service tasks)
