Karcher window washer/cleaner. Any good?

Or another brand?

Have acres of glass to clean. Have middle-aged, bachelor DB who, having never cleaned a window in his life, thinks a bit of Windolene-esque spray will sort a 4 bedroom house; plus conservatory. Yeah, til the sun shines through said windows, my friend!

<ugly smear emoticon>

I have read a vast array of reviews for Karcher-style window washers and hope there is MNetter out there who can tell me their experience!

TIA

My DH swears by his, and used it loads when he first got it. We're also in a four bed with a conservatory.

I know someone who owns an old pub, and window vacs all his windows on the inside every night, as they're always very wet and it prevents mould and mildew. It's amazing how much water they suck up!

I've not heard/read any bad reviews, so I'd go for it.

They're pretty good. Not that easy to make completely smearless ime but much, much quicker than windolene and rubbing.

And yes, splendid for sucking up condensation.

Oh, forgot to say, the head is quite long so you still end up doing smaller panes of glass (like in our French doors) with spray and a towel.

Brilliant, and you can get attachments for smaller windows

NotMrsTumble Sun 28-Jun-15 21:18:32

Pretty sure you can buy a mini head for those smaller panes. To be fair ours is mostly used for sucking up condensation, but in the odd occasion I have used it to clean the windows, it seems to be faster and better than a spray and kitchen roll.

Don't you have both sizes of head Slinky?

SlinkyB Sun 28-Jun-15 21:22:26

Erm, I don't know TheCountess; I've never used it blush dh's dept.

Wonderful things - these are the only 'gadget' we issue to our cleaning teams, they are not cheap but results are brilliant! Great for washing shower screens and tiles too!

OK, may I ask how you do your windows?

I admit I thought the Karcher sprayed on cleaner then wiped it/bladed it off with the suction blush. I now see it is 'just' a water vacuum! What product do you use to clean dust, grime and greasy marks off your window before Karchering it off? And how do you apply it? I see the premium set comes with a spray bottle with attached sponge. And probably expensive cleaning product! I can see that that would do the job, but what do you do if you haven't bought that somewhat specialist bit of kit?

If you spray, wipe around, then Karcher, surely it'd be only a bit more faff to spray, wipe around, cheap-plastic-blade off, wiping the blade between sweeps? which is what I do now, using white vinegar and water as my spray?

What would a Karcher bring to the party? grin

My brilliant aunt who is professional cleaner and holiday property manager does this. She gets a paper towel wet and uses a bit of washing up liquid, rubs it all over the window and Karchers it off. I actually did it myself and nearly passed out with joy. Just need to bite the bullet and buy one of the bastards , my windows look AWFUL

Since I bought one on impulse from Amazon last year my Windows have never been as clean!

My DP loves gadgets so he does them inside and out every two weeks or DS gets it as chores.

It's my favourite Amazon Lightning deal success..actually, it's my only Amazon Lightning deal success. It's fantastic, my windows are clean for first time, also we use it on mirrors!

AngelsWithSilverWings Tue 14-Jul-15 11:40:39

Love my one - I've got the smaller attachment so can do smaller windows too. It's great for shower cubicals/screens.

Blind dog uses his nose as a bumper so mirrors, glass doors and fridge here too.

Draylon Tue 14-Jul-15 12:49:46

Thanks all, esp nigel for the description of how to actually do it! <passed out with joy> grin

And aw! Blind dog nose bumper!

Draylon Tue 14-Jul-15 13:18:06

Bought one on amazon for £44, locker delivery tomorrow!

Yes thanks Nigel
My shower looks much better now but I got over enthusiastic and squirted Fairy in my eye -ouch!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel Tue 14-Jul-15 13:43:19

I must try with a paper towel. I use the Karcher squirty bottle with pad on, which leaks.

Just ordered one.... ah the sun shall shine through my clean windows and show the world how dusty the house is.
