"ORDER TO DECLUTTER/LOCATE THE JOY

Clothes
Books
Papers
CDs
DVDs
Skincare products
Make-up
Accessories
Valuables (passports, credit cards, etc.)
Electrical equipment and appliances (digital cameras, electric cords, anything that seems vaguely ‘electric’)
Household equipment (stationery and writing materials, sewing kits, etc.)
Household supplies (expendables like medicine, detergents, tissues, etc.)
Kitchen goods/ food supplies
Other (If you have many items related to a particular interest or hobby, such as ski equipment, then treat these as a single subcategory.)

KonMari stresses that sentimental items should be left till the end. So for example, when you are doing papers, don't include photos of your children, love letters, old school reports etc, leave anything with a sentimental connection for later."

All organized for everyone's usage, can't get it vertical or folded for the threads but everyone can put them in their important personal space.

Thanks so much. Am Considering skipping books for now as it is so hard for us. They are like sentimental items plus we have probably 2000 so getting them all into a pile in the front room would stop our daily life. So. Will tackle it in order of ease, I think.

Small achievement of today, finally hand washed a dress that has been hanging around the bathroom for about 4 months

Did get much else done...food prep didn't happen as I have everything except the first item I needed..an onion!

Got rid of all my crappy hangers today, replaced with my Amazon order of 50 JML black slim velvet hangers for £17 :) . Even more room in wardrobe now and looks super-lovely !

Hello again - I've been off the wagon for the last couple months being ill and doing the minimal amounts of housework, and of course storing Christmas presents.

On the plus side, almost all presents this year are to replace worn out items (bedding, shirts, shaving mirror, earrings, scooter for ds) so I live in hope that once out of my room, some order can be achieved. It has become clear that some new furniture is required to use space better, plus getting rid of old furniture.

My plan when I last posted was to stack some boxes of komono in the loft lags labelled "blah belonging to MrNC that NC thinks should be chucked." I hope to achieve this now I have time off...

I was filled with enthusiasm when I discovered the last thread but had forgotten I had guests coming so have completed precisely zero (except for delivering out the Christmas pressies). However, inspired by all your wonderful updates and the amazing sock folding video (I could watch that all day - it was strangely mesmirising!) I'm off to tackle DS' wardrobe. I may be gone some time . . .

My fave tips from previous threads:

MK doesn't accommodate children or their belongings in her book. But MN can fill the void!

Trofast excellent toy storage. Toy rotation is key. Take photos of fave toys, or even better, fave toys being played with, then no need to keep toys. Ditto fave clothes. They can then be treasured memories whilst also bringing joy to others whilst no longer in active use.

Buy the book. This thread is marvellous motivation but nothing beats MK herself for getting into the mindset. If tidying is 90% in the mind, she can help with all those thoughts that get in the way.

There were some other tips for virtual tidying that I haven't tried yet. Unroll me (?) for email unsubscribing.

Hello, marking place.

Slowed down due to Xmas, but am going to do handbags tonight. Also finished the book this afternoon. Definitely feel inspired and hope that at least we keep additional clutter down over Christmas so I can keep going once guests have gone.

One question. Book says one area per person for all your stuff. Is that really feasible for a family. Eg, cook books in kitchen, reference books in study by desk. Does it make sense to put in one place? And does it make sense to clear all books from my lovely teak bookcase? What would I put on it instead? That bit confuses me.
