Hurrah - new thread! Thanks BeCool. I haven't been on here much in the last week as I've been moving house (from down south to oop north!), starting a new job and getting the dc settled into their new school. But the unpacking has been made sooo much easier by the decluttering I did before we moved. And my clothes, which the removal company moved still in the drawers or in hanger boxes, remainef in perfect Konmari order throughout!

I have ''done'' my clothes. ish. but I look at them and wardrobe is still v crowded, and I have 2 pairs of v expensive shorts I've not worn in 10 years; but in my head I'm saving them for dd. this is bonkers, right? talk me down pleaseeeeeee

I'm stuck with a lot of stuff as 6mths pn and carrying excess poundage so I know my shape will be changing.. plus I cannot afford to throw away clothes...

Just popping in for a quick update. I'm still doing it, albeit quite slowly. Yesterday as I was cleaning up DDs bedroom and I put all of her hair accessories and jewellery in 2 big piles and sorted them all out. I got rid of everything that was damaged and put it all away nicely.

Whilst I didn't follow the "does it bring you joy rule" it was useful as I had been thinking that she needed more hair stuff and she definitely doesn't.

Today I've found all of our hats, scarves and gloves. Have thrown away anything tatty. Put some others for washing. Got rid of all of the odd gloves too.

In the end dd has 6 pairs of gloves, so definitely doesn't need anymore. DS however has none. We now all have a personal drawer in the hall with our hats, scarves and gloves all neatly folded inside.

I'll give it a week

Yippee, a shiny new thread for all our slightly less cluttered lives.

I wore my new 'replacement for all the shoes I got rid of' gorgeous shoes today (I should point out they are sainsburys cheapies before you think I'm being flash!) and they brought me joy all day! Honestly I've not worn heels in the office for so long I actually felt fab.

CDs and DVDs next, this will be tricky with DH. Any tips?

Chaffinch chuck them out. Or eBay them as mrsc says. I am ebaying lots of things I can't bear to just chuck away. I feel less guilty if I know I will get money from it. I put the money from my eBay selling into dd's savings account it's the only money I pay in these days

Signing in to the new thread! Clothes, books and paper work remain sorted. But house still feels cluttered. I think toys are the main culprit. Marie doesn't say anything about toys. None of them bring me joy! But the DC would insist that every single one brings them joy! So how do i sort them?

Ooh I didn't realise there was a thread for this. Loved tlcmot and have done clothes, books and a few 'komono' but slowing down, need to get going again.

Might have overdone clothes actually. Am left with 3 pairs jeans, 2 dresses, 2 tops, 2 shirts and 2 jumpers. If I forget to do the washing one day I am a bit stuck. Also have no winter coat yet and as in Scotland this is fast becoming more urgent, but when I go shopping and nothing strikes me with joy I don't feel I can buy anything even if it is nice and practical...

Did tea and coffee stuff today. Have to keep items that are 'good' well-used things, if not joy-inspiring, like the Moka, as well as items like the tins I keep tea in which strike me with no joy at all, but I'm not sure having piles of tea bags all over the counter is going to help with the general aim of minimalist bliss.

Thank you for the new thread - easier to read on mobile devices - for the moment anyway! I'm not fully on board yet - I started on tops and shoes but have panicked slightly. A combination of not having enough spare time to do it properly and not knowing what I need for an evolving lifestyle e.g. not wanting to get rid of smart work suits at the moment. I have done some culling and lots of folding so I can at least see what I have more clearly. I have got rid of some worn out shoes and boots and bought one new pair of boots that give me joy:) The dcs are helping clear out their clothes and toys. Babysteps... I am working up to a proper go at the process!

Hello new thread. I've not started anything yet but was interested to read about magazines. I used to buy many many magazines and keep them all. I had some vague notion that I'd archive them somehow

I decided I couldn't keep Collecting them, but was too scared to throw them. So I started by leaving a couple in doctors surgeries it felt safer than recycling. Then gradually moved to donating recent ones and recycling the rest. Magazines rarely cross my threshold now!

I think I'm going to continue in a part time way. DH is way more tidy than me (OK he rolls his t shirts rather than folds, but we can forgive him, right ?) However DS1&2, their clothes, toys and heaven help us junk-modelling, I don't feel that I have authority over these so I'm going to just deal on my spaces. How does everyone else cope with 'non-believers' ?

Nc and asheth I feel your pain re. Toys. Luckily dd is quite little and I can chuck whatever I want. I am definitely going to chuck all of the megablocks and just keep duplo. Not sure apart from tgast. Most things do bring her joy, but it only lasts two minutes. A cardboard box would bring her joy if shecan pretend its a boat. Perhaps i need to keep only the toys which give the most joy per square metre occupied?

Two bags of clothing and accessories that do not bring me joy are waiting for a charity collection tomorrow. I said thank you to the too small handbag for bringing me joy when I used it to hold a purse and a lipstick on an amazing night out in Glasgow almost 7 years ago. I hope these things bring joy to other people. Especially the too small gorgeous coast trousers that I will never fit in ever again.

Can't remember who was saying about cutting out recipes at the end of the last thread, but would Evernote work for collecting recipes? Or even just snap a photo on your phone and discard the hard copy.
