Lakeland clothes drier..

I've seen threads about these before I think. My questions are - are they ok in a small house with not much room? Are they ok with a crawler/cruiser baby in the house? Are they worth the money?

We don't have a tumble drier and now we've got two children are really struggling!

Any suggestions welcome!

I love mine, we live in a maisonette so not really that much room, I have a couple of places that it can stand, also you can use just one side of it so it doesn't take up as much room.
If you go ahead and get one, my main tip would be to cover the whole thing with a fitted sheet or duvet once it is full, trapping the hot air really speeds things up and makes it much more efficient.
You could put it up in your front too overnight and everything will be dry by morning. I would really recommend it.

I agree with pp about the sheet over the top- ive just bought a cotton mattress sheet for mine and it definitely speeds things along!

I've not found space a problem at all as they fold away reasonably compact an I've had mine on over night anyways so not found them to be in the way.

Another huge bonus ive found, is that the heat they let off is enought to heat the room they're in. So I saved loads in the winter with less heating on and the cost to run it is pennies per hour

Really don't know where I'd store one when not in use.

Optimist..I always read the lowest ratings too..but bear in mind some people are impossible to please!

I love mine. It stores really flat - not like a traditional dryer. If you have a small space it can open to 'half size'

I've taken the plunge and ordered one. I read through the reviews and most of the negative ones are comparing them to airing cupboards or tumble driers - I realise it won't be as good as these, but as I currently only use an airer figure this has got to be better!

Had one for couple of years! Brilliant.

It wouldn't burn a toddler, I'd be wary of it possibly trapping him /her if they pulled a shelf , if their neck got caught etc. That's actually a very sensible point OP as the shelves are held up by a collapsible clip.

What do others think?

I've had mine a few days and LOVE it!!! Have dried a full load in about 4 hours and finished off one load that was still a bit damp after being hung out.

I have the three layer one and it is brilliant. I have to admit I tend to leave it up all the time (live in a flat with no outside drying) although only turn the heat on during winter or at times of major laundry backlog.

I've gone for the three tier one. I'm very excited - not overly impressed with their home delivery service though... It'll be delivered in the next seven days, at some point... I'm not waiting in on the off chance!

Dos anyone who also has a tumble drier use one? Half of me is thinking it is a waste of money and solving a non-existent problem, but OTOH there is a lot of stuff in our house (DS' base layer and other bits of games kit, DD's kilt, etc) which don't want to go in the drier and end up draped over radiators..... [dither]

You know what I don't like washing, because of the drying issue..is towels.

I looove big, thick towels. But drying them in winter hogs the radiators..way too much for tumble dryer to cope with.

Can someone tell me about this dryer, and thick bath sheets..how many would it dry at once, how long d'you reckon it would take?

Any input appreciated!

I have a tumble dryer too but haven't used it for ages mainly because the weather has been good and I've hung everything out.
The airer is going to cut the use of tumble drier massively I hope. I can imagine still using it to dry towels as I like them soft and fluffy!

Agree that it's not hot enough to burn a toddler. My cruising DD loves to pull up on the bottom shelf, and to 'help' by taking the lower clothes off and passing them to me (even if they're still wet...) so I fold the lowest shelf away if she is around.

Tumble drying leaves towels nice and fluffy. If you find that too expensive I would part dry in the tumble and finish off on the dryer (or vice-versa).

I love mine! I only ever tumble towels and underwear and M&S knitwear that can be tumbled. Everything else goes on the heated airer.

And if you're drying shirts, hang them on hangers around the edge and that has the 'tent' effect.
