very large throw for sofa needed - any ideas?

Need to cover a large, broad, now grubby, ungainly sofa - why we bought it, I don't it. The cats don't like it either because they've torn it about with their claws.

Can't afford to buy a replacement for a couple of months so, in the meantime, want to cover it with a throw - especially as a bunch of people are meeting in our living room soon.

We'd need one 10 feet by 7.5 or 8 feet. (just over 3 metres x 2.4 metres)
and, ideally, a fairly natural material like cotton or hemp ...

Can't for the life of me find anything on the net - any ideas, anyone, for where to look? Many thanks!

I once bought four cheap cream ones from Wilkinsons and stitched them together. I cut off the tassels from two sides of each and made sure the pile was going the same way. It was enormous. After it made a massive rug in the garden for playing on.

The faux silk throw from costco is the biggest one I've seen at 2m 60cm square. They are really beautiful to the touch.
these are cheaper but smaller so you'd need 2 or 3.
Alternatively you could go to a fabric shop and buy a big stretch of material.

You can get enormous heavy cotton floor coverings from a decorators. We use these as throws. They shrink a little bit on the first wash but are ok after that.

What about this bedspread from Ikea? I use a single size to protect a sofa from our dog.

The double size is 260cm by 280cm for £35, so a little shorter than you're looking for; or maybe two singles for £25 each, 180cm by 280cm sewn together to make 360cm by 280cm? Or maybe just overlapped - it would be a struggle to get both into a washing machine together.

The pillowcases could be used as big cushions - could look good on a big sofa.

Thanks very much, all of you, for your suggestions. Whereyouleft - thanks for the image and link - I like the sound of a bedspread which even my cats would be hard pressed to damage in any way. Willow - thanks, also, for the amazon link. And the idea of sewing a couple of cheaper throws together is very good.

WilkThong - I'm going to go to my local fabric shop tomorrow - thanks for the suggestion - if that fails, IKEA is probably is.

Not natural material and probably not big enough but I think the fleece throws in Dunelm Mill are very good. You could use one for the middle section of the sofa. They are quite big though. I particularly like the brown and white check one.
