With the blade of a knife. If you really must.

Why do you want to?

Are you hosting a 1980s dinner party?

Namechangearoonie123 Sat 02-Aug-14 12:16:01

Afternoon tea. It's for the scones and I want it to all look nice.

I've tried it with a knife and it's a bit scruffy, though I think I'm supposed to put the curls in iced water.

Try a potato peeler?

Namechangearoonie123 Sat 02-Aug-14 12:19:02

Oh good idea smile

I will try that, the butters too soft now to do it so I'm shoving it back in the fridge.

Going to start the bunting and tissue poms next

Namechangearoonie123 Sat 02-Aug-14 12:24:26

I have Fortnums tea.

There is champagne but my SIL and me are the only ones who would drink it.

Where do you get actual butter curling devices from? Is there a proper name for them? Quite fancy getting one now..

tak1ngchances Sat 02-Aug-14 12:37:03

Lakeland of course! linky

DH gets all twitchy over butter curlers so I've promised never to get one. I'm not sure about it all but it seems to be a left over from his ex-wife along with his Winnie-the-Pooh aversion grin

I had to deal with his horror over the lemon zester I purchased. He was OK once I explained its use but it obviously linked into the past for a moment.

So I can never curl butter, even if I wanted to. I just squish it into ramekins if I want to be posh or use the butter dish that we got as a wedding gift. envy at people having free choice over their butter presentation.

use a spoon - drag it at about an 80 deg angle along the top of the cold butter. should make a nice curl, but without the striations that a butter curler would make.

make sure you buy the strawberry jam with champagne in it too. yumyum

Namechangearoonie123 Sat 02-Aug-14 12:50:30

I've made my own jams, strawberry and raspberry.
