Ottoman beds?

Has anybody got an ottoman bed? I really want one to maximise the space in our bedroom. However we don't actually have any need for a new bed, so would literally be buying it for the storage alone.

Does anybody know how much storage you actually get? I am thinking about storing all our bedding and towels under there? That would free up some massively needed cupboard space. DH said he helped a friend put one together and he didn't think it looked that great for storage. But he is a man and clueless realistically.

Have seen Groupon do them for £154 delivered Here

But wary of deals looking better than they actually are?

I have one. It contains my many many shoes and I love it for that alone. There is MASSES of space in there - it would easily do bedding and towels with room left over I'd say

We got one recently (a king size) and have got in it the following:

Three crates of out of season clothes
One of shoes
About 10 box files
Two single duvets and 4 pillows
Various other bags
There's room for more still as well

I would choose carefully, some are really heavy to lift up/pull back down, depends how many riser arms there are. Also some are deeper than others, you get more in a deep one but it makes your bed very high.

thank you. We wouldn't be getting anything too pricey really. I don't suppose you know the height of yours? I don't mind a high bed if it helps with storage

The box part is 30cm deep, total height including, mattress and casters is 65cm. We didn't actually go round measuring them, so some of the difference might be due to difference mattress thickness, but I walked past one in a shop window that we had looked at the other day and thought it looked a lot lower than the one we ended up with .

Make sure you can lift it with the mattress on though, there were some that I would have really struggled with, but I have a bad back and prolapses, you mat be fully fit and strong!

Oh, the other thing, make sure you will be able to get it into your bedroom, that one looks as though it comes in one piece, ours came as two single compartments and one big lid, which the delivery men took upstairs and clipped together. Ours has 4 lifter things (1 on each side of each compartment) which is why it is fairly easy to lift. A one piece king size wouid never have fitted up the stairs and round the corners of our house (Victorian terrace).

I have a kingsize ottoman bed and love it. All our bedding and ds2s bedding is under there. I also put the summer/winter quilt and DH and my summer/winter clothes depending on the season.

It holds loads, would easily fill two 4+2 drawer chests and that's not counting the spare duvet.

thank you. I think im sold but just need to convince my partner. and work out if a cheap one will be Ok?

We can only have a double. We have built In wardrobes from previous house owner that go all the way round the room except for the space for the double bed. otherwise we would Have a bigger bed.

Ah, I thought Groupon was a buy a voucher to take to a shop thing (never used it) so you could have a look in the shop first and then decide whether to buy. To be honest, if you haven't got any injuries, or don't mind asking your DH to lift it then it probably doesn't matter, also double will obv. be lighter than Kingsize. Those things were particularly important to me, just mentioned them in case they were relevant. Ours cost about £800 from an independent bed shop (including mattress).

it's just an online shop.

We have a mattress already that we will keep so that's not an issue. so the price is just the bed really. If we needed a new bed then we could probably spend more but there Is absolutely nothing wrong with the one we have, except it has zero storage. can't even put anything underneath as it's a low bed (I never would of bought it personally). It's just got a big enough gap for dust and stuff to collect under there. And for little things to accidentally end up under there with no way of getting them out!

Sorry to resurrect this thread but I'm hunting for answers on the same kind of thing! I fancy the idea of an ottoman bed, my only question is do you have to pull the bed out to open it? Our bed head end is right against the wall, so I wondered how you pulled the "lid" and mattress up? We are looking at a hypnos one from bestpricebeds online.

No, you just lift up the end.

Thank you - stupid question but the bed shops near us haven't got any on display and I don't want to drive 20 miles to nearest showroom if not worth it! Definitely going to get one :)
