Does anybody have two fridge freezers rather than one large freezer and one large fridge?

Not quite - we have a large fridge freezer and then a separate large freezer in another room, as do quite a few people I know. The only people I know with two fridges tend to use one for drinks and one for food. Two fridge freezers wouldn't give us enough freezer space, but sounds sensible if you shop for fresh often and don't use a great deal of frozen goods.

Yes, but because we're in a rented property and the built in f/f is unreliable and kept defrosting the frozen food. We decided to buy our own as we also needed extra fridge space. We do tend to keep different things in them though - one tends to have milk, , sandwich fillings etc and the other seems to have mostly alcohol! .

We have a fridge freezer and additional freezer... If we really need more fridge space (ie. at Christmas) we also have a huge cool box we can use.

Oops, seemed to have proved the pp right with our fridges! I don't tend to keep a lot of frozen stuff and would rather have the extra fridge space.

We do because our current house has a built in f/f. I only really use the freezer part of our old one.

I was thinking of kitchens where people have installed appliances by design rather than accidentally IYSWIM. I was talking to a friend who mentioned that the freezer part of both her fridge freezers had stopped working and I wondered what the rational for two fridge freezers rather than a large one of each might be.

I do, because I thought my old ff was on its last legs so bought a replacement before catastrophe hit. Several years on, they're both going strong. It was actually quite handy as we had a period when we had three million teenagers and associated appetites. Now, stuff just goes wherever there's space, though cheese goes in the "new" one because it has a special cheese box.

We have a fridge/freezer, plus a separate fridge, and a separate freezer. It's overkill really, but works pretty well for us. The second fridge was to give us somewhere to keep milk & butter near to the kettle & toaster, as it seemed like the fridge/freezer was too far away. In practice, I think we were a bit precious about the distance (about 4-5m), but it is useful having one fridge that is effectively our 'storage' and one that is in more regular use throughout the day.

The second freezer is used mainly by my mum (she lives with us) but is also an overspill for us when the fridge/freezer is full. Mum also has her own fridge (in her own kitchen), which she uses for her day to day bits and pieces.

We have two side by side - the doors are on opposing hinges, so both open inwards. I forget the reason why we didn't put in a large one of each, but suspect it's because we worked out we'd have more storage that way - the units are built in (not my choice, but dh's) and people are always suprised when they open the door and find a second one.

We do - one in the kitchen, which use for stuff we use everyday and one in the garage, which we use for drinks, extra veg and things like large joints of meat when we have them. DS2 has a special diet and I batch cook and freeze his food, so we need quite a large amount of freezer space, so I do wonder sometimes about getting a separate freezer.

Yes, we specifically designed the kitchen that way (anticipating 2 teenage boys in the future!)

The kitchen designer actually recommended it to us...because big US style fridges take up a lot of space, but don't necessarily have as much interior room as you would imagine - the frame is bulky, especially those with ice makers.

The doors open out each side so you can open both fridges and survey the contents ( or lack thereof)

I really like it and couldn't imagine only having one now!

New kitchen designed exactly how I want it and I have a larder fridge with a v small freezer in it as well as an undercounter fridge which I use mainly for drinks and overflow/unopened food eg butter, cheese etc. Also have a larder fridge and larder freezer in the cellar but they are more by default than design and are generally empty but handy if having a party.

Yep, we have a fridge freezer in the kitchen and a separate fridge and freezer in the garage. Works for us...

Larder fridge in kitchen, fridge freezer in utility (converted alleyway) and chest freezer in garage! Works well.

Will consider the two FF idea for our new kitchen though rather than a double FF.

We have a tiny kitchen off of a large dining room. Decided we'd keep our under counter freezer in the kitchen so we could have a half decent worktop when it was redone. Then bought a much bigger fridge freezer which lives in the dining room next door. Annoying at first but used to it now.

We have 2. We rent but we own most of our furniture/white goods, although when we moved in there was already a fridge/freezer integrated. We use both but the integrated one DH likes to call his 'beer fridge'
I call it the leftovers fridge and we keep leftover meals on that freezer whereas our fridge is mainly fresh food and icecream in the freezer... Err I mean... Vegetables....

I think the benefits are that firstly it is more ergonomic ie you access your daily food without having to bend down (fridge sections are usually at top of fridge/freezers) and secondly if one appliance gives up the ghost you can store your frozen food in the other one rather than having to throw it all away.
Also you will have more space in two appliances than in one American side by side.

I agree that the American-style refrigerators are not ergonomic - they take up masses of space for the litres of storage and you need loads of space in front and around them.

We have two fridge freezers in the kitchen and one chest freezer in the shed. One fridge is a drinks fridge in summer and the freezers are usually full as I batch cook and bake quite a bit

yes, and it is very convenient. One is in the futility room which is very close to the front door, so shopping can be unpacked there.

BTW when we replaced the old fute beer fridge and freezer (they were very old but worked fine) the electricity usage dropped by 5kWh per day, which is about 70p. The same as running two old 100W light bulbs 24 hours a day, which may not seem much.

Modern FFs are very much more efficient than old ones.

Yep. Little under-counter larder fridge in kitchen for butter, milk, condiments and so on, big larder fridge in utility for real stuff, next to big larder upright freezer, which is backed up by smallish chest freezer in storage room. This is what I chose and it works for me.

Yes. We bought a new large fridge freezer before we moved house so wanted to take it with us but the new house had a built in fridge/freezer in the kitchen. To get rid of that one would leave a gap but not big enough for our own fridge freezer, so that one is in the conservatory.
The kitchen one is for every day things - lots of condiments and fruit/veg. The other one tends to get used for drinks and overflow. Both freezer sections are always full, so I guess in an ideal world I'd have one fridge/freezer plus a chest freezer but there's no point buying anything new and the extra fridge space comes in very useful at Christmas!
