defecting to Virgin

I've been ordered by DD1 that our broadband speed is 'crap' compared to everyone else in the civilised world. I'm currently with Sky for TV, BB, Phone. I've found a Virgin deal that's 10 a month cheaper, much faster BB and I want to 'go over'... Does anyone know is it best to order this Virgin deal and then tell Sky or 't'other way round?

Tell sky first that you are leaving. You may be under contract and have penalties.

I have just left virgin to go to sky as cheaper. Also virgins customer service has been horrendous.

My brother has been with sky for over 15 years. Every year he gets a discount and better package by saying he will leave.

Thanks. I called them this morning, (Sky).. I spoke to a man in a call centre, I'm guessing was in India, he had a very strong accent, spoke quickly and I had trouble understanding him. He seemed totally indifferent to the news that I was thinking of changing to Virgin.

Tried ripping me off on contract times, didn't accelerate complaint, after not cancelling contract originally. Basically didn't listen. And that's when I managed to speak to someone here in Britain. The Philippines call centre is just full of people under the misapprehension that they speak/understand English.

I downgraded my virgin package after 2 years of being with them. I was not told I was starting a new contract. I then a few weeks later decided to go to sky. When I rang virgin to tell them I was told I was in a contract and would have to pay a ÂŁ240 fee. I eventually was allowed to speak to a manager who said I had been sent a letter - I told him I never received it and he said unlikely! I then rang again to definitely cancel and was threatened with debt collectors if I didn't pay. At no point did I say I wouldn't pay. I asked ti to make a complaint and was told I had to write or email. This was ignored. Tried ringing again and was told emailing is not the way to complain! I told the manager on this occasion that I was disgusted with the service and would not recommend. He said he hears that 10-15 times a week! If that is the case they should really be doing something about it.

Eventually I put a post on their Facebook page. And finally got somewhere. They directed me to an email and I got it sorted when finally someone very helpful rang me.

I'd never use virgin again.

wow what a story.. horrifying.. Defo not going Virgin. I'm on the phone to Sky now and a nice man is giving me half price fibre optic for a year and upgrading tv package for same as virgin quoted.. After a year he said call and ask for another year of half price fibre optic bb and I'll get it. I'm chuffed.

Sorry to hear of troubles with Virgin - they have always been great with us!

Glad you got sorted. I was just about to post a 'nonononono don't do it post'. We swapped from Sky to Virgin this week and we hate it. I'm already counting down until the end of the contract in 18 fucking months, all so DH could have BT Sport

Well done! We had a horrible experience with Virgin. Never again!

We switched from sky to virgin and hate it. The customer service is terrible, the service is rubbish, the series link set up is ridiculous and we can't wait to go back to sky!!

We moved from BT (the very devil) to Virgin BB a couple of years ago. Have been perfectly happy to stick with them... Compared to BT, the service has been wonderful: speeds have been reliably good (and OH is reliant on good transfer rates for work). Admittedly, we've no experience with customer services, yet, having had nothing to complain about!

We've just left virgin aswell to go back to sky they were putting our bill up yet again and we'd had enough. The TiVo itself is better than sky but the price and customer service sky is by far better

virgin are a nightmare- we switched from virgin back to sky even tho the virgin BB was much better, and we cant yet get fibre opticBB in our area- we are prepared to put up with sky BB because their service is so much better, better menu paths on sky TV and customer service and much more likley to get a better deal if you want to renew/threaten to cancel!!!!!

I love Virgin! Anything goes wrong and they fix for free unlike Sky who charge a fortune!

Virgin is rubbish, don't go there! . We moved House and they spent two months trying to lock us into a new broadband contract, but not actually connecting us, then did a total about face and told us we were "not lucrative enough" customers to be worth reconnecting!

We went over to Plusnet. No problems since and their fibre broadband is supplied through the BT lines. It's fast!

I've been with virgin for years with no issues. Got a 'loyalty' discount at one point by threatening to switch to sky on an introductory offer.

the virgin line mostly works fine and is quite fast if your street is cabled for fibre. When it goes wrong it is a waste of time phoning them, they have no idea and are completely useless. Eventually they mend it of their own accord.

Beware that the price on their fliers and adverts is their introductory offer and will double after a few months.

Customer service on Tesco appears to be much better.

I've been with virgin for about 7 years, with a TV/broadband/telephone package, and have always found them great - extremely fast and reliable broadband (can cope with me and DS watching separate programmes on inlayer/lovefilm simultaneously), and on the few occasions anything has gone wrong, mainly with the TV box, they have sent someone round very promptly to fix it, for free.

The other big advantage is that I have never had to have a BT line, which seems to be a requirement for most other providers' packages - from everything I have read about BT installation and service over the past few years, I am very grateful that I have no need to have anything to do with them.
