Discoloured baby clothes - laundry help, please!

My baby spits up a lot, and what I have done so far is chuck them straight in a bucket of water with soda crystals in it. After at least an hour's soak, into the washing machine on 40.

This regime isn't working and his clothes have discolouration around the neck. What should I be doing differently?!

I swear by vanish spray, spray it onto the affected area (works with baby poo too) sling it in the wash when you next do it!

I just used to get them into the wash on the same day, or have loads of cloth bibs.

I don't use soda crystals so don't know how they work but I tend to leave stuff soaking for longer than an hour. Will wet straight away and rub regular washing powder into affected area. Then leave to soak until I have enough washing for a full load - can be a couple of days. So far has worked on sick, poo, lurid pink antibiotics and various foodstuffs, even in winter when I can't hang to dry in sunshine...

I do wet right away and usually soak overnight (an hour minimum if I have a load ready to go). Can't see where I am going wrong! I have always been useless with laundry but thought my soaking bucket was the answer.

Might give the Vanish spray a go...
