Housekeeping

having to put bin bags at front of house

The stupid council have decided in their wisdom that I must put my rubbish in black sacks at the front of my terrace house for collection.

In order to get them to the front I would have to either carry them through my house or through my neighbour's garden down the alley past my neighbour's house and leave them on path.

At which point 27 local kitties will descend and rip the bin bags apart. Hmm

Is this even legal?

Seriously though how does one manage this stupid arrangement?

How did they collect them previously? Did the bin men have to go down the alley and through your neighbour's garden? Which multiplied by however many houses they are collecting from seems incredibly inefficient for them.

We also have to put ours out the front, although its more of a seagull problem than cats so we just cover them with an old blanket to stop them getting ripped open.

I put mine out in the morning so tHey only exposed for an hour max. PITA but I don't have to take a bin back in I suppose

It's usual to put them in front of your house, isn't it? We have the cat / fox problem too, but it would happen if they were at the back of your house too? Confused

We always put them in front of our house... We live in south norfolk and it's the way it's done round here! Doesn't bother me at all, I guess I'm used to it.

I have to pull my recycling bin ALL the way through my terraced house which I hate (not allowed to leave out) (its a wheelie bin) but general waste is collected from the back lane. Apparantly the recycling lorry cannot get down the lane though could that be the case with you. I did suggest that we could take our recycling bins to the top of the lane rather than drag them through the house, and the council were like 'yeah, right, stick em out the front you imbecile'. Well almost. Maybe your council could answer your questions in a more helpful manner?

Until now the bin men collected from our bins in the back yard; they only had to walk through 1 set of neighbours due to the layout.

Everyone else in the street has a wheelie bin, because they have private access into a back street.

This is what back streets are for; why did I not think of this when I bought the stupid house?

We already put the recycling out the front door which is not so manky, but a bit of a pain to store in tiny terrace for two weeks at a time.

I had the cat/fox problem with the plastic bin bags being ripped apart....but not now as I spray the bags with any cleaner that's in the cupboard. Word has got round in my street, we're all doing it.
