Unfuck your Christmas

Here is the link www.unfuckyourhabitat.com/

I am a recent convert to Unfuck Your Habitat, and feel the need of a Grand Christmas Unfuck.

I know there is a MN UFYH thread already going (hello, fellow unfuckers!) But thought I would not be alone in needing to sort my shit out the saturday before christmas.

For those of you new to UFYH, it is like flylady, but less fluffy and blessingy, and more telling you to not be so fucking lazy (oh, and there is an app)

If you are need of procrastination further inspiration, check out their tumblr page - before and after pics!

The link again, actually linked this time!

Going to do a 20/10 to start, of making beds, tidying round upstairs to start. Back in 20mins!

I unfucked the bathroom and the en suite yesterday and am in the process of unfucking the washing.

CitrusyOne · 21/12/2013 09:03

The unfucking would be far more effective if I hadn't got a 1 year old who is hell bent on fucking everything back up again.

Can I mark my place to read later. It sounds like just what I need.

Brilliant! Thanks for the link. I gave up on fly lady, this is more my thing. Looking forward to actually getting somewhere with the state of my house!

Hello!

Did 15mins upstairs, but have:

Got dressed
Made all beds
Brushed hair (no mean feat)
Sorted out laundry basket, it can now close, but I have about 3 loads of towels to do (how is that even possible?)

Going to have some breakfast, then do another 20mins in the kitchen, dishy, laundry etc...

Great! I have just started reading the site though known about it a while. I'm 9 months pregnant and 20 mins is my limit. I don't actually normally swear out loud but I've been thinking it more and more as bump gets bigger+ Carpal tunnel making my hands numb so I drop everything!

Need to get up and showered first then I'll start at 10 with the bedroom and laundry.
Second 20 mins is packing the longer stay hospital bag I've been putting off.
Third is starting on DDs room.

Ooh, thanks for this. I like the concept of FlyLady, but the purple fluffiness & gratefulness does put me off. Must check it out.

I think what I like most about UFYH, is that it accepts that people have limits, be that physical or mental, and that some people just need a kick up the arse, and that is ok too.

Flylady seems to be all a bit 'love your home, yourself, your family and bless them with a tidy home' and while I get that, on a shit day you feel you are shit and that you are a shit person because your family don't live in a show home.

Anyway, I sympathise with all of you with small children that can fuck up all the unfucking in a fraction of the time. My two are 3 and 6 and we have just got to the stage where I can bribe them with sweets and mention Father Christmas is watching to get stuff done :o

In my last 20/10 I have:

Unloaded the dishy
Done the washing up
Taken some dead plants out to the plant graveyard garden, and picked up some of next doors washing out of the hedge :o
Put load one of towels in the machine
Put the almost dry laundry in the tumble
Fold all dry laundry
Get DD to get dressed

Off out to do the horses in a minute, so will be gone over an hour or so, give the kids a good charge around in the fresh air (then plonk them in front of a film when I get in!)

I need to unfuck for Christmas. Once DH and DC have gone out I will start with a 20/10 upstairs in the attic/bedrooms/bathrooms.

Am on the second load of washing today, thanks to DH going on a course that involved several sets of clothing for two days.

Slight change of plan in that I decided it was best to clean te bathroom while it was still steamy from my shower. Just brought a microfibre cloth in with me and wiped shower cubicle while conditioner sat in my hair. (It was "cleaned" with Cif yesterday by DP so wasn't too bad but he misses a few bit regularly but I nuked them today) then quick wipe over sink etc with same cloth and bathroom is lovely and tidy.

Next 20/10 is laundry and bedroom and will actually be 15 /15 as a lot of bending needed and that's hard work ATM!

We've been seriously unfucking for the last few weeks, redid our storage area (so we have room for everything), the kids' rooms, our room, the bathroom, and the rest of upstairs. We got several bags of rubbish out of those. All that's left is putting up the new blinds for the boys', getting the boxes of donation clothes and toys out of here, and then the old kids mattresses (last bit won't be able to be done until end of January when the council will do bulky pick-up - seven week wait for it). Other than those and general unfucking, we're holding off on the rest until January except for maybe more than usual laundry.

I started by unfucking the bathroom, that always seems the easiest place to start. I've also done the living room and am doing the kitchen next.

My washer is broken (and only 3 months old!) and nobody will come out till monday so I can't see the washing mountain going anywhere before Christmas. But that is out of my hands so there is no point stressing about it. And hopefully we'll get some new clothes anyway ;)

seff would you use a laundrette to catch up with washing?

Going great here except we are stuck doing DDs room. In theory it was 20/10 but she faffs that much 20 mins work was 3 dirty items in laundry and a cd off the floor. it's more like 45/45 but we aren't as shouty as we are when we aim for 20. :)

Next load of laundry in and we are having a break do I can nap.

There isn't one locally, and we have no transport. It can all be hidden in the spare room with the door shut for a few days over Christmas. Once I move the clothes off the floor in the bedroom it will look fairly tidy. Just sods law that it stops working just as I get the motivation to start tackling it again. And at this time of year.

And I say it every year, but I really want to try and keep on top of things over Christmas this year instead of letting it all go and ending up having to spend the first week of the new year tidying again!

MrsNouveauRichards · 21/12/2013 17:48

Why do machines always break at the worst possible time? Ours started pissing water all over the floor 2 days before we went camping, and I was trying desperately to get the laundry basket empty as I knew we would have loads when we got back.

Seem to have been flat out all day, but very little to show for it.

Currently in the bath, I then have to put kids to bed, put a load of laundry away, Hoover sitting room, rearrange dining room, empty and reload dishy, do a last sweep round of any crap and hide it in the cupboard under the stairs, get ready and wait for party guests to arrive at 8pm. It'll be fine I'm sure....... Hmm

Ah, I see. We don't have enough clothes to do that! I refuse to buy more maternity stuff with less than 3 weeks til due date and am currently Rotating 3 outfits. Dd rotates about 5 and dp about 5 as well. We hate shopping but if our machine broke we would be stuffed!

Feeling good after my first day of UFMH though I'm wrecked and need to go easier on myself!

MrsNouveauRichards · 22/12/2013 07:15

Those last few weeks of pregnancy are the absolute worst aren't they?
I keep saying we need fewer clothes, but somehow we always seem to have huge amounts. My DS gets given so much from friends with older boys, I nearly always have a bag of slightly too big, stashed somewhere.

Good party last night, didn't get drunk, so not hungover this morning, but bloody knackered!

Off to do the pre Christmas family visit and present drop today, so no unfucking for me. Back on it tomorrow though, need to work on the cluttered corners/surfaces/piles.

Have a good Sunday all!

I fell off a previous UFYH thread, can I join in this one? Can someone tell me through the powers of extrasensory perception what needs to be done in my house? No? Oh all right I'll try to write my own list. clearly my brain is the first thing which needs to be unfucked

Outside: seed box out to shed. shredded paper to compost bin. recycling out the front. large cardboard, paint tins and shoes to tip. random bits of wood to shed. extra chairs brought in for big dinner party At The Start Of November to shed. random piece of carpet to protect floor when shelves being made on workbench Also In Fucking November to shed.

Kitchen/dining room: do the fucking sewing projects (two christmas gifts, can't be postponed!) so that the fucking sewing machine can be put away (first, work out where the fuck is 'away'). Write Christmas cards, post with a straight face. Turn dining table 90 degrees into guest mode. deal with power cable spaghetti.

Hall, living room, stairs, bloody everywhere really: fucking clutter. stuff with no home. Needs vacuuming, like bloody everywhere else. Then the vacuum needs to be actually put back in the fucking cupboard under the stairs. For once.

Bedrooms: I'm saying now that DS's room is below my threshold of giving a fuck. Our room has, par example, a suitcase that needs to be put up on a high shelf and two shelves of bedsheets which some fucker DH has folded and stashed inefficiently Dammit I have SYSTEMS for a fucking REASON!. Spare room has PILES of THINGS that I've been meaning to sort since I started mat leave FOUR fucking months ago, but HAS to be done now because PIL need to sleep in there in three days time.

Fuck, I'm glad DH is in charge of Christmas dinner. Here endeth the sweary list. Please someone stroke my hair and say there there...?

OldRoan · 22/12/2013 12:55

Can I join in?

This morning I finally disassembled all our cardboard boxes from christmas deliveries and shredded the address labels. They are in my pile of things to go to the recycling point (no collection here, boo).

Next - washing load on, run round with a bin bag collecting all the little bits of ribbon and string and laminated bits from making stuff for my classroom at work. Hopefully that will mean I can get the dining table clear...

Oh cock. just remembered I've got Tuesday afternoon taken up with making a Christmas cake and the stuff is defrosted for mince pies that have to be done today, and we've promised to take DS swimming on Monday.

Achieved: a large paint tin, a busted baby monitor and a few cardboard boxes taken to the tip. Beer and wine on a shelf in the cupboard under the stairs. DH doing outside lights and has cleared a kitchen surface lets see how long that lasts

There, there Lexilicious (better?)

So, the annual Christmas present drop off and family visit is done. Sadly I always forget that I will be bringing more presents into the house from the family, and this time a toy farm from when I was a kid, a bucket of animals and doll house stuff, and a sheep feed bag full of old books (book, luverly books!) My husband is delighted with me :o

So, the Great Christmas Unfuck continues.

TO DO
Get up
Make beds
Put some clean washing away
Get dressed, and kids dressed
Feed kids
Friends kids being dropped off at 8am
Unload the car from yesterday
Unload dishy (and reload)
Tackle the laundry pile
Cull some books and toys to make room for more books and toys
Horses
Lunch
Film and chill/snooze on sofa/read new books
More general unfucking
Dinner
Friend over this evening

That will do for now, back in a bit

It is comforting to read that nearly every other fucker needs to clear their dining room table in order to use it. Our dining room currently has:

2 x holes in the floor
2 x kids bikes in a corner
Not enough chairs, so that if anyone comes round, one of us has to sit on the kids Ikea table
Grubby walls in one corner (DS and his sticky fingers + Matt paint)
1 x table (apparently, often it is completely covered)
