Have you had a fitted kitchen replaced? And if so..

... can I ask what you did with the oven?

Did

  • the kitchen folk take it away?
  • you sell it (if so where? eBay/ local ads etc)
  • dump it
  • get someone else to take it away?
  • give it away (how? Who to?)

The reason I'm asking is that my Dad (75!)is moving into a retirement flat within the next 4-6 weeks and we've just been told that the oven doesn't work and will need replacing.

He won't have a lot of spare cash after the sale
and probably won't use the oven that much anyway (probably the grill more) so I'm trying to think of all the places I could go looking for a decent, working, second hand one for him.

It's a fitted kitchen, so needs to be a built-in double oven/grill type one.

(If anyone has one - please let me know too!)

We sold ours locally - and a very good deal someone got too, as it seemed quite new, but just not what we wanted.

But that was about 5 years ago. Today I guess I'd sell via eBay (more buyers?)

Yes - I've logged a couple of 'WANTED's on the two local branches, so we'll see what happens, but it's such a specific thing needed in a short time frame, I thought I'd ask here, to think about other places I might contact.

I was wondering about phoning one of the installation companies for new kitchens and asking (nicely!) what they do with the stuff they take out and get asked to take away??

Anyoen know what sort of person would be needed to fit a an oven - it sort of seems a combination of electrician and joiner?

I think a handyman can fit an oven, don't think it's hard at all.

We had our kitchen redone. Most of the bits were taken away by the cleaner, but I don't know what happened to the oven. It was rubbish anyway.

Any chance he could manage with a toaster oven for a while? They work well for the grill, only take a bit of counter space, and are easy to use ... they heat up faster than a full-size oven, too.

What about looking on the noticeboard of a local supermarket? That would seem a good place to look.

Good idea MamaG! Or I guess Homebase/ B&Q, 'cos I know they have For Sale noticeboards?

How about your local evening paper in the for sale bit or ask on freecycle whether anyone has one they don't want anymore.

Think you might find quite a few on eBay? My brother & his wife bought one for their holiday cottage about 6 months ago and seemed to have a few to choose from. think they got one for less than £100, and it's fine!
